With great sadness I am writing today to confirm that after 107 years, Deveney’s Rathmines is closed. What a journey we’ve had over the past century, starting life as a horse feed and supplies store when Rathmines was a staging post outside the main city of Dublin up to today where we have been battling the current as an independent off licence. Along the way we have met wonderful people, made great friendships, seen loved ones come and go and enjoyed every second of it. I am truly devastated that it has come to this as I will miss you all and am heartbroken that we have had to bend to socio-economic realities when I truly believe that local businesses provide the fabric and glue in our fragile society, something we need now as much as ever. I want to thank you one and all, for supporting us over the years and creating so many great memories for me and my family, it really was a blast. And now some time to focus on my family and time to think about the future which is filled with the optimism of ‘what next?’ We only get one spin so time to look forward and embrace the future. Niamh

"La Bella Figura," is an important Italian philosophy that basically relates to how you present yourself, making the best possible impression in all things. And what better way to experience la bella figure than with wine! We've had a little break from our tasting events, but with the stretch in the evenings and the daffs in bloom, it's time to pick up the wine glass and celebrate! On April 7th, Joe Coyle from Liberty Wines will take us on a tour of Italy's principle wine regions, from Piedmont in north to Puglia in the south, stopping to sample a tipple in each. As always, this is a ticketed event with limited availability so please call us in the shop on 01 4972392, or call in to reserve/purchase your tickets. We look forward to welcoming you at this event, it will be a fantastic road trip!

Niamh's wine of the week is "I Muri," from Puglia. This pairs really well with lamb, the negroamaro grape has rich black currant, forest fruits and toasted coffee notes. Yum.

**An Introduction to Home Brewing** On Wednesday 17th February we're kicking off our first 'Home Brew' evening. Brian Murphy from Wood Key Brewing co. will introduce a series of their "Ravens" home brew test batches created to test a new recipe for 2016. Brian will explain their process in detail and explain what they did to alter the batches and what the process was for selection. We welcome all novice, amateur or professional home brewers to bring along their own batches to share and test on the evening and for all of us to have some craic and learn more about the art of home brewing! Tickets are €10 and and, as always, it's a prepay ticket event with limited space, so call us with your card details or alternatively pay in store!
