Osteopathy: What Does Osteopathy Treat?
Gardening Can Damage Your Health. Written by Sacha Pakkiri, Osteopath. With the first glimmer of spring, many of us can’t wait to attack those long accruing gardening tasks. Finally a bright sunny weekend and you spend every available sunlit hour taming the jungle. But you wake up in the next morning, and you can’t move. The pain in back is excruciating. It takes you forever to get out of bed. Hot water bottles and painkillers don’t work. You pick up the phone trying to book the next available appointment. It doesn’t take long for me diagnose a ligament problem. But how you did this happen you ask? Simple answer, you over did the gardening. Your body and spine has been fairly inactive for several months and you didn’t give it time to adjust. Would you have done a marathon with no training? The ligaments broke because you didn’t train your spinal muscles to support them. So next time, break in your body. If you are planning on starting any form of physical work or exercise, build the body up in a steady and progressive manner. So if you want to garden for the weekend, do 30min-60mins early in the week, say Monday. Take Tuesday off, which allows the body time to build those important spinal muscles. Then providing you are pain free, do 1hr – 2hrs on Wednesday. Again rest Thursday. You’ll be ready for the weekend. 4hrs of work each day with breaks will help. By taking a little time to prep the spine, you’ll be able to garden through the summer. Which has huge health benefits. Research is finding that activities like gardening have better health benefits than pounding the treadmill for an hour. So please, take a little care before doing that marathon stretch taming the garden or it will damage your health. If you don’t I’ll be happy to see you Monday morning for your osteopathy treatment.

One of the most common treatments for osteoarthritis is ‘ineffective’

The continual cry of a baby with colic is distressing for new parents. I would normally see a baby after tired parents have exhausted conventional medical approaches. The birthing process can lead to stresses and strains in different parts of the baby. From the upper neck which interferes with nerves to the digestive system, to altered positions of the digestive tracts. Both of which leads to improper digestive function and pain. Realigning and freeing these strains with gentle techniques may provide quick relief and restored function.
Babies and Osteopathy. I have found that combining cranial osteopathy and visceral osteopathy is an effective tool for treating babies with digestive issues. The birthing process can be traumatic and in most cases nature and a nurturing mother is all the baby needs. But sometimes additional support is needed. By listening with our hands we can pick where the tensions and problems are focused. Gentle movements are then added to correct the problems.
