Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)

Description

A Football Project for refugee children. We sponsor weekly football training and quaryerly festivals/tournaments in Lesvos (Greece). We are a group of individual volunteers from all over the world. We organise football activities for the refugee children and youth living in the Kará Tepé Refugee Camp in Lesvos, Greece. The core aim of the organisation is to promote their physical and mental well-being and -most importantly- allow them to have fun!

In partnership with the Municipality of Lesvos, the NGO Movement on the Ground, and the cooperation of FC Barcelona Foundation among others, we are implementing a Football3 Project, with the aim of promoting social cohesion within the refugee youth from different nationalities, and their social integration within the wider local Greek population.

The main activities of the project are (a) weekly training sessions at Spanos Mini Football Academy in Panagiouda, and (b) the organisation of a Football Festival every quarter, with the participation of local academy teams such as Olympiacos FC, Kalloni FC (Panathhinaikos) and Eliakos FC.

We are a charity organisation and rely on the material and financial support given by volunteers, friends and family. We do not receive any public of official support. Should you wish to support our project, you can do so by donating football gear (boots, socks, shorts, jerseys, gloves) or by making a financial contribution into this account: IBAN: IE26 BOFI 9045 7914 0941 67 (Bank of Ireland).

Thank You! :-)

Donate – Football For Refugees

The third Refugee Football Festival will run from 3-10 June in Lesvos. As always, we rely on your support to keep providing regular organised football to the boys and girls who will be spending this Easter Sunday in a Greek refugee camp, far from their homes. Here's where your generous donations have gone so far: 1. Clothing: FFR provided boots and football kit to over 400 refugee children to date. 2. Festivals: Pitch rental and transport costs for two football festivals, with over 120 hours of supervised football. 3. Sustainability: FFR coordinates with Lesvos-based NGOs to fund weekly football games for refugee boys and girls all year round. 4. Scholarship: FFR established and funds a scholarship programme for gifted young refugee footballers to train with the youth academy of Greek giants Olympiacos FC. 5. Integration: FFR collaborates closely with the local Greek community in Lesvos, promoting integration and cross-cultural friendship by extending the football festival's reach to include local youth teams as well as teams of unaccompanied minors and refugees for other camps such as Moria. Please help us to keep this important work going by making a donation at https://footballforrefugees.com/donate/ We hugely appreciate your support and thank you for helping us keep the beautiful game available to the refugee boys and girls of Lesvos!

Syrian refugees: more than 5m have now fled their country, says UN

“Europe went through this during the second world war and there were many countries which supported Europe. Syria is currently going through this trauma and it now needs the world’s support. We should not be turning our backs on people in need. The solution to the crisis in Syria is political, but in terms of support it is humanity that is needed.” - Babar Baloch, UNHCR spokesman

The 2017 Winter Festival of Football in #Lesvos has ended in great success. Over 5 days, 33 football matches were played (had to be cancelled due to weather) in Spanos Mini Football Academy by around 160 children (many unaccompanied) from 6 to 18 years of age, coming from Kara Tepe, Moria, Caritas, Iliaktida, METadrasi & PRAKSIS. Football For Refugees wish to thank all the children who participated; their parents and carers; Mr and Mrs Spanos; the people from Kara Tepe, Moria, PRAKSIS, METadrasi, Iliaktiada Caritas, and Movement on the Ground; SAMIOTIS Bus Tours and Attika Warehouse for their transport assistance; Paperland and Doukas Printing. We also wish to thank all our sponsors and donors without whom the Festival would not have been possible: Zuhlke, Cartrawler, DLCM Solicitors, Futbol Total (Manresa), InterSevens, YBIG, and all our families and friends.

"Lesbos operates the Irish Football for Refugees organization that contributed to the creation of the refugee Kara Tepe United team and organizes this January the second football tournament on the island, which is estimated to involve 70 unaccompanied minors refugees. "Children living in camps like Kara Tepe, carry many injuries, it's been a painful process to escape the war and a dangerous journey to get here. Sport unites people and their grafts with confidence. We saw with how much enthusiasm play these guys pass and decided to do what we can to ensure them that", says Barry Lysaght from the organization."
