Description
Hand made custom cricket bats locally made in the Upper Spencer Gulf of South Australia, created using English Willow grown in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. The Magic Wand Cricket Co is a partnership owned and operated by brothers John & Michael Dunemann. Both brothers have been involved with cricket all their life, either playing, coaching, or spectating. The love of the game has developed an infatuation with cricket bats and what makes a good bat. More importantly how to make a good cricket bat.
Whilst watching a test match in India a year or so ago, John heard the legendary spin bowler Shane Warne, describing an Indian batsman, who he thinks was probably VVS Laxman, playing a cut shot as “like Harry Potter waving his magic wand”. The idea of making magic wand cricket bats was born.
John and Michael became accredited Willow Blue Bat Makers after attending an intensive bat making course in April, 2016, with Ian Callen at his workshop in the Yarra Valley. Ian Callen is an accredited Master Bat Maker who learnt his trade in England in the early 1980’s and also owns and operates Willow Blue Forestry, which is the only English Willow forestry in Australia. All timber clefts used by Magic Wand Cricket Co are sourced from Willow Blue Forestry.
