Globally, unless competing at an elite level, exercise recovery is done poorly. Coaches, trainers, and parents emphasise the importance of warming up to avoid injury but very few discuss post exercise recovery which plays a significant role in preventing injury and fatigue. At Westside Physiotherapy, we truly believe prevention is better than a cure and aim to keep you on the track for longer. Our Sports Recovery Room is designed to aid muscle recovery post exercise to ensure you stay out of our consult room and on the track, field, or court. If this sounds appealing check out our introductory Sports Recovery Room offer – pay just $50 for 45 minutes of recovery bliss. We advise high water intake before, during and after your 45 minute treatment. Head to our Facebook page or website westsidephysiotherapy.com.au to book online or phone 7610 8242 to talk to our staff. Sunday appointments are available between 1pm and 4pm. Read on below for more information relating to each treatment option available. ----- Sports Massage – a type of massage specifically tailored to treat sporting injuries or ailments. Some of the know benefits of sports massage include improving flexibility, relieving pain, improving blood circulation and decreasing swelling. ----- Recovery Boots – the recovery pump uses sequential pneumatic compression therapy to help muscle fatigue, soreness, and inflammation. The leg pumps inflate starting at the feet and gradually working their way up the leg until full compression is achieved. The pump then rhythmically deflates and inflates at regular intervals. ----- Myofascial Cupping – myofascial cupping lifts and separates soft tissue by applying negatively pressurised cups over various fascia and gliding the cups using massage cream or oil. This technique increases blood flow and provides a passive stretch to underlying tissues. Unlike traditional cupping techniques myofascial cupping will not leave you with large circular bruises. ----- Dry Needling – is the application of acupuncture needles into muscle to treat pain and dysfunction caused by muscle spasm or stiffness. The needles are left in place for a short period of time and may be twisted or manipulated to elicit a heightened response. ----- Electrotherapy – a variety of electrotherapy modalities are available, ultrasound and interferential are the two most commonly used. These two treatments can assist in pain reduction and aiding natural healing properties.
