Monica Szwaja
Description
Award winning Jewellery Designer, Monica Szwaja combines the use of form and colour to create unique jewellery. Monica specialises in jewellery remodeling. Gold & Silversmith. Monica trained in Europe and Melbourne where she completed a BA in Fine Art at the royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and graduated with honours. It’s about having fun!
I have a philosophy of ‘beauty within simplicity’ I find great appeal in subtle shapes and forms with a focus on surface textures and colour. A combination of precious metals, precious and non precious gems is all used with equal ‘value’ and appreciation.
Colour and surface treatments, having an affinity with metal and the ancient craft of smithing, lead me to discover my own creative ability, often it’s the medium which determines the design in my studio, nature being my inspiration.
There is such joy in being a maker… the melding of craft, concept and medium.

facebook.comDID YOU KNOW? In 1988 a group of manufacturing jewellers, aware of the traditions and a need for a higher degree of consumer protection in the precious metals industry, instigated and formed The Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia. The Guild is the only professional organization in Australia with a traditional and comprehensive system of marking precious metal items. Guild Members’ names and marks are permanently recorded, they abide by set standards of material, their work is clearly identified as genuinely made in Australia, and the date of manufacture can be recorded. The Guild’s principal aim is to promote the Guild Mark as a symbol of excellence.

I spent a wonderful weekend in beautiful Bendigo, I stayed at Shaller Art Studio owned by Maticevski the fashion designer, he is currently exhibiting at the Bendigo Art Gallery. I walked through the gardens to the exhibition and I visited the Chinese Museum along the way. I spent an afternoon at Big Hill Winery celebrating Tony Keans 80th birthday. From the left, Tony Kean and Michael Wilson the co-founders of 'The Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia, me next (obviously) and Paul Bott, a amazing jeweller. All four of us have been members of the GSGA for many years, we are referred to as 'Vintage' (Cheeky!) A fabulous weekend.
I meant the stick figures were 'irresistible' not 'irritable' Dam automated spell check thingy.
