Those of you who attended the festival may have noticed that Cumbernauldfm were recording (visually) all the performances throughout the day, well, you'll soon be able to enjoy them again. Moreover, for those of you not in attendance - you'll see exactly what you missed, including frozen fingers, windswept hair and hopefully not too much of the very unseemly, nasal related behaviour from Croy's own Boab Canavan of Campfires In Winter - but also, some great performances. Streams will be made available via the CumbernauldFM Facebook page in the coming weeks and will be announced in advance. Thanks go to UNIT 55 for the audio recordings. Is there anyone in particular you'd like to catch again?

Charity Fundraising Update. We're delighted to announce that the amount raised for our charities currently stands at £800 - we're also awaiting news on another donation. We sold 218 raffle ticket strips, with the rest being made up of individual donations. The total will be split among our three charities - RNLI Lifeboats, Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance & Strathcarron Hospice. We thank you all for your generosity and I'm sure the charities would echo that. We would also like to thank our volunteers - Jackie, Alison, Grace, Angela & Hayley who stood with their buckets all day gathering donations: your efforts are much appreciated. 🙂

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for making the first Auchinstarry Community Festival so enjoyable, despite the appalling weather - it was more like the 24th of November than June at times. However, there was such a friendly, family oriented atmosphere throughout - the children dancing front of stage all day was such a great sight and really shows the power of music and it's inspiring qualities. To see toddlers, with their parents and grandparents, together, enjoying visiting the stalls, having a go at the archery or enjoying the live music is exactly how we wanted it to be. We weren't without our difficulties, some teething problems, others out of our control - not least the sheer force of the wind, the generator issues and the subsequent delay in getting a replacement as well as the wrong marquee arriving (late) on site with little time to find a replacement, let alone pre-warn folks before turning up. However, everyone pulled together and made the best of the situation and we can't thank you enough for your perseverance and understanding in that regard. We would like to issue an apology to the Bellshill High School bands who were most affected by the delays caused by the generator issues, we regret that you weren't able to play and hope that it doesn't deter you in the future. We are ran by volunteers, without whom the event would not have been possible - we are externally grateful to those of you who turned up. Moreover, we must acknowledge those who have shown great kindness and community spirit in donating things other than time - we would like to extend our thanks to the following people: All of our stalls holders, workshop leaders, face painter and henna artist - we are particularly grateful that you came on-board for this first year to help us establish something that will hopefully have a big impact on the local community. The bands - the weather was wild but you were all hugely professional and kind enough to change stage times and set lengths at a moment's notice and were hardy enough to cope with being absolutely battered by the freezing wind. We're glad to have seen you bring your families down and know that for some that was a first opportunity they've had to see you play, it really did help to create a special atmosphere. Others, we should name individually for all their help in organising the event, turning up on the day and diggin' in or who supplied a prize for our raffle. We're delighted to welcome more traders and another workshop to Auchinstarry Community Festival this week. Please, give your artistic friends a nudge about taking up a stall themselves or to let anyone they might know of, know about the opportunity - spaces are running out. In terms of newcomers, we're really looking forward to having Craigside Farm Crafts join us at the festival, specialising in felt and wool goods crafted from the fleece of their rescue sheep - their products range from iPad & Kindle covers to Purses & Hair Accessories. We've also got a great new workshop to announce: Scottish Willow - Children's Willow Workshop. Learn to weave a willow fish or hanging willow tree decorated with ribbon and flower to take away. The workshop will cost £3, but it could set your kids on the path to taking up a new craft. Check out the website below: http://scottishwillow.co.uk/

Do you make your own clothes / textiles, jewellery, ceramics or food products? Or do you know anyone who does? We've had great interest so far and many that have gotten in touch have decided to run their own stall on the day - we would love to welcome many more. There is a one off fee of £25 to book a stall. Anyone who wishes to submit an idea is welcome to do so via this page or email. Please get in touch with any ideas you may have. We would like to note that we are somewhat taken aback by the initial reception the festival has received and are particularly grateful for the many shares you gave our page. Thank You.

We are a new, family friendly festival created to commemorate the life of Chris Odell, who having worked at Auchinstarry Marina for 14 years sadly passed away last year after a short battle with Cancer - his love of music, art and boating will be the focus of the event but not the full extent of it. Chris was a strong believer in local community and had always hoped to create an event that would bring together the boating community with local communities in Croy, Kilsyth and further afield to enjoy the Marina as he did. The event was conceived by Chris’s wife, Wilma and sons, Andrew and Stuart; it will be realised with the help of family friends both in the organisation as well as volunteering on the day itself. The focus going forward will be to benefit local communities by providing a platform for local youth groups and individuals, musicians, artists and creators of all types to come together and express themselves through our mutual loves of music and art. We want to create an event where everyone feels welcome and we want to remain open to ideas, if this is to become a yearly fixture in the calendar local people will have to have some input - to that end we are welcoming suggestions, whatever they may be. In particular we are looking for people who may want to have their own stall on the day, selling their paintings, cakes or jewellery or anything else you produce. Any other suggestions are of course welcome. Another intention of the event is to raise money for charity, this year donations will be made to RNLI & Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA, both of which Chris supported; furthermore, we have chosen Strathcarron Hospice as a local charity. Any additional money after recoupment of investment will be reinvested into the future of the festival, we hope to register the festival as a social enterprise in it’s own right in the future. If you would like to offer suggestions or discuss anything else please contact us either through Facebook or Email. Also, to stay up to date with all announcements please sign up to our mailing list via the website here: https://auchinstarryfestival.com/ RNLI - https://rnli.org Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA - https://www.scaa.org.uk Strathcarron Hospice - https://www.strathcarronhospice.net *All support needs will be catered for throughout, please feel free to contact us for more information.
