Some learning curves are steeper than others! The staining of the hollow body prototype has not quite turned out how I was hoping and I may still add a light burst. What do you think? The idea was to scrape back the binding, but that was not to be so. I should start to carve the neck soon!

A new PRS on the bench to be set up for some Newtone Strings hybrids 9-46. As it was on the bench the customer asked if the push pull tone pot could be made easier to engage. The problem being that the tone knob was a little tricky to grip, slipping from between the fingers. The solution, a push push tone pot!

The hollow body prototype is coming on nicely. Ive tried out a few new ideas on this one, as well as the hollow body, its got recessed controlls in a revised layout, a revised top carve and it will also get a nice stained top. As I was carving the top using scrapers and files I could realy hear the tone opening up. The entire body became more resonant and tapping the body gave a louder response.

Acoustic number 2 getting its final prep prir to going into the spray booth. OOO size, 24.9" scale. The mahogany back and sides and cedar top will give a warm and full bodied tone. All being well this should be ready to try and buy for early February.

The first of the reclaimed trio. Completed just in time for the festive period. The African mahogany body was kindly donated by Tom along with enough material for 3 more bodies. The neck woods were off cuts from various past projects, fingerboards and headstock plate supplied by Exotic Hardwoods UK. Finnished in super thin open pored satin lacquer. Gotoh hardware, Mojo Pickups hot P90, single ply black scratch plate. Supplied to Tom Lucking in a Hiscox Cases hard case strung up with Newtone Strings. The workshop has been a little busy over the last few weeks mainly due to this. A custom build for Tom Ansink. Toms custom spec consisted of 27"-30" scale length, '72 styling, custom string spacing and the option of sending the bass and treble sides to individual amplifiers via a single output jack. This wiring enables bass and lead parts to be played on the same instrument whilst providing the option to effect the 5 treble strings independently of the 3 bass strings. Or, should a second amp not be available or the stereo lead be absent or broken, a simple flick of a switch sends both signals to a single amplifier. This multi scale hybrid instrument features custom made pickups from the absolute heros at Nordstrand Audio. Tuners and bridge units from Hipshot Products Inc. Black Walnut body, English Chestnut cap, Maple/Padauk neck and Ebony fingerboard from the guys at Exotic Hardwoods UK. Flat wound La Bella Strings for the bass side and D'Addario and Co. pro steels. Hopefully Tom Ansink will be kind enough to send some videos of this guitar in action, both he and Adrian Gautrey showed how an instrument like this should be played!

Acoustic number 3 is taking shape nicely. Now that the Ovangkol sides are bent, end blocks glued in and the end fillet fitted, these sides will remain in the mold until the top and back are glued on. The back is also braced and ready to go. There is some lovely figuring in the back and sides. This is a stock build and will be for sale towards the new year.

This custom build is well under way now, The threaded inserts are in the neck as well as the trussrods. Now its time to glue on the ebony fingerboard using a couple of clamps. This build for Tom Ansink is going to have 8 strings and yes, those are fanned frets.

It is with a deal of pride that I can say the FIRST acousitc guitar wearing the RH guitars logo is now complete. I wont go into the full details but I will say that it has been a rewarding 10 months. A process which I have already started again, twice! Hopfully the next one will be strung up before the new year but for now here are a few pictures to enjoy.
