Free upgrades to Windows 10 ended a few months ago, but you can still upgrade if you want. Is Windows 10 any good? Here are some pros and cons to the new version of the OS, plus things to consider if you're using older hardware and software. Pros: ▶ While not a feature of Windows 10, installing a new operating system allows for a fresh start and a speed boost ▶ Microsoft says Windows 10 is the final version with updates being made to it in the future. ▶ It's the latest and most up to date technology, providing aditional security ▶ It arguably looks and feels nicer than older versions Cons: ▶ Windows 7 is perhaps still the most stable and reliable Windows ▶ You have less control of your updates, with Microsoft often pushing updates and restarting your computer when you don't expect it ▶ There are some privacy concerns regarding Microsoft's gathering of data from Windows 10 machines There are other things to consider like how comfortable an individual is with one system, as changes can cause problems. Phishing is on the increase again so watch out for bogus emails from iTunes, Paypal and other well known sites. See the sample email below. It's a fake iTunes receipt. All the links circled in red are fake and if clicked will bring you to a bogus website. Don't click on these links, just delete the email.
If you bought a laptop or PC at Christmas then don't forget to install anti virus software. Here a few free ones all of which I have used before and work fine. AVG free.avg.com Avira http://www.avira.com/en/downloads Avast https://www.avast.com/index Remember your Windows 8 or Windows 10 computer will already have Microsoft Defender installed and while it's not quite as good as the ones above it's the one I use and it works. As a second line for defense use Malware Bytes.
