Another interesting fact about perfumes: Perfumes today are not made with real flowers. Because of perfume’s mass production, the use of real flower essences had to be replaced with synthetic fragrances. The upside? The life expectancy of a bottle of perfume has now been doubled due to longer expiration dates.
Interesting fact about perfumes No 4: Give your nose a break and get a free sample of Mistral Perfumes. When testing new perfumes, avoid trying more than three in a row. Your nose will have trouble differentiating the aromas if you happen to overload. A quick way to clear your nasal passages? Take a deep breath against a bowl of coffee beans (which fragrance stores usually have on hand) and you are ready to try few more scents. We are giving away a 50 free samples of Mistral perfumes to first 50 persons who will share our FB page and send us a message with adress for delivery and number of the Mistral Perfumes sample they want to get for free.

Time for third interesting fact about perfumes: One perfume produce different scents on the same person. There you are in the store, trying a variety of fragrances, looking for the one that could become your signature scent. You find a lovely perfume, one that evokes happy memories or a feeling of bliss. Then you get it home and discover you don't love it quite so much – in fact, you kind of hate it. What happened? How can one perfume smell so different on the same person? Before we explain, let's discuss how smell works. In order to smell anything, the odor receptors in your nose must latch on to the scent. Not only do different people have a different number of receptors, but people also have a varying number of types of receptors. You may have more receptors for certain smells (lilies, for example), which means you smell even the smallest whiff of lily aroma in the air. Someone who has more receptors for other smells and fewer for lilies may only detect the lily smell at levels that would overwhelm you. That tells you why different people smell things differently, but what about you? Why does the same perfume smell differently on you at different times? It's all about evaporation and notes (perfume-speak for individual scents). Most perfumes have a three-part smell that reveals itself as the perfume evaporates from your skin. You'll smell the top notes first, within about 15 minutes of application. Middle notes appear after about two hours because the chemicals that create those scents evaporate more slowly. Base notes linger and you'll begin to smell them within five hours of your first spritz. The perfume chemicals that stay on your skin longer mix with your own skin's chemistry, which changes all the time due to things like heat, humidity, sweat, medications, diet -- even age. The other big factor in how you perceive perfume is environment. Mix the scents of your perfume with the background smells of a forest or an Italian restaurant or your dog and the odor receptors in your nose respond differently, leading you to experience the perfume in a different way. So, remember: When you're testing scents at the store, try them on your skin, and give them a little time to develop. Perfume can change a lot between the bottle and the curve of your neck. Today we present second interesting fact about perfumes: Did you know that our perfumes are imported from town of Grasse in France that is a Perfume Capital of the World? Since the 17th century, the French Riviera town of Grasse has become the world’s perfume capital. There are around 60 active fragrance companies based in Grasse today. You might not have heard of Robertet or IFF (if you are from around Drogheda you could hear about it), but you will be familiar with their clients, from Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs to l’Oreal. Unlike the Big Three, these laboratories neither advertise their presence nor welcome unexpected visitors near their closely guarded fragrance secrets. If you are a globetrotter and perfumes fan you might want to visit Grasse for an annual Fête du Jasmin or La Jasminade, at the beginning of August. Decorated floats drive through the town, with young women in skimpy costumes on board, throwing flowers into the crowd. Garlands of jasmine decorate the town center, and the fire department fills a fire truck with jasmine-infused water to spray on the crowds. There are also fireworks, free parties, folk music groups and street performers. There is also an annual international exhibition of roses ("Expo Rose") held in May each year. Finally, writing about Grasse we have to mention their great International Perfume Museum. Opened in 1989, the museum traces the evolution of techniques during the 5,000 year history of perfumery and the large contribution of the Grasse area to perfume making. It was renovated and expanded (doubling in size) between 2007 and 2008.

The art of creating perfumes dates back to Egyptian times and has gone through some pretty interesting (read: weird and crazy) transformations since then. We’ve gathered some of the most mindblowing facts about perfumes for your reading pleasure so keep watching for our updates. Today fact one: You’re Spraying It Wrong: You hair—not your skin—might actually be the best place to spray perfume. Because of your scalp’s oiliness, it will actually keep scent longer than your skin will. Also, because it’s always in motion, it can actually diffuse the scent more easily. But remember to spray your hair in moderate amounts as perfumes contain alcohol, which can cause dryness if applied frequently.
