MSc. in Molecular Medicine
Description
The M.Sc. in Molecular Medicine programme offers a comprehensive and thoroughly up to date overview of the area, provided by experts in their fields. Molecular Medicine is a relatively new discipline spanning the fields of science and medicine that exploits advances in molecular and cellular biology to characterise how normal cellular processes either fail, or are subverted, in disease. A central aim of Molecular Medicine is to translate key research findings at the laboratory bench into therapies that will directly benefit patients at the hospital bedside (also known as ‘bench-to-bedside’ translational research). The M.Sc. in Molecular Medicine programme in Trinity College Dublin was established in 1997 and offers a comprehensive and thoroughly up to date overview of this discipline, enabling researchers in life sciences, medical practitioners and healthcare professionals to understand and evaluate advances in Molecular Medicine in order to keep abreast with developments in their fields.
The programme is delivered by more than 80 research-active experts, including academic scientists, clinicians and healthcare professionals from the university and its associated teaching hospitals in addition to experts from other universities and hospitals.
The course provides applicants an opportunity to acquire a broad theoretical knowledge of topics such as cellular signalling, genetics, oncology and immunology in human health and disease, while other specialist areas covered include the molecular basis of human diseases, the role of infectious agents in disease, advanced diagnostics/therapeutics and nanomedicine/medicinal chemistry. Furthermore, a central component of this M.Sc. programme enables applicants to gain valuable ‘hands-on’ experience in state-of-the-art research laboratories and access to the latest cutting-edge technologies in the biomedical and life sciences. To date, over 300 people have successfully graduated from the programme.
