Tomorrow we proudly drop our highly anticipated summer menu!! 😱😬☀️ This menu has a strong Asian inspiration which we are all excited for, but donut worry, we haven't lost any of our cult favourites. 😉😘 We would also like to take this opportunity to mention that although we continually try to grow and expand our business, we are environmentally conscious and constantly look to make CREAM more sustainable for the home we all share. 🌏 For this reason we choose to use 100% biodegrade takeaway containers and utensils, and as of tomorrow will no longer be using beef or lamb in our menu. 👣♻️ Recent studies show that beef and lamb rank first and second for food products that contribute to CO2 emissions, and agriculture ranks third for overall emitter world wide. While we acknowledge that as a cafe based around coffee we consume a high level of diary, we are happy to take the steps we can as a functioning business to lower our emissions. 📉 We look forward to sharing our new menu with you all, but don't want to give away anything just yet!! As some may know, head barista and owner Joshua Rivers along side co-owner Hu Liu, recently touched back down in Oz after travelling through Sumatra visiting coffee plantations. Here's a snippet from their experiences, as documented by Josh. 🙌🏼 "This is Leo, the owner and brains behind the Tiga Raja Collective. The picture was taken on one of the farms that supply to the mill. Leo, in conjunction with 5 Senses, have had a huge impact on the local community by truly initiating "direct trade". Direct trade allows the buyer/roaster/café owner/barista to trace their coffees origin down to the farm. But most importantly it means we are dealing direct with the farmers and mill, as a posed to going through a syndicate or large commercial exporter who blindly rip off the farmers. We have met farmers that are now sending their children to school due to their new financial position, thanks to Tiga Raja and 5 Senses. Prior to this the children would have worked the farm and had limited options upon entering adulthood. Loan sharks in Sumatra are also a problem that plague the farming industry, and again the Tiga Raja Collective have helped hundreds of farmers exit the continual spiral of debt they were once in. THIS is what lines the specialty coffee market; fair, ethical, and sustainable business that provides to all aspects of the supply chain. CREAM turned 1 and we put out over 800 cups of coffee, almost 40 tattoos, and a crazy amount of food!! 😱☕️🍴To say the least, we have worked our butts off the past year and especially this long weekend. 💁🏻‍♂️💁🏼 Josh and LT have made the executive decision to shut the caf this Monday until Thursday (10th of Oct - 13th of Oct) for our staff party. They have booked a 12 bedroom lodge on the river in Mannum equipped with canoes and row boats, and how could we say no? 😇😇🚣🏻🏊🏼‍♀️🏄🏌🎣 Apologies to anyone this is an inconvenience for, but you can't deny the CREAM team is one of the most hard working bunch of people worthy of a holiday. ❤️ When we get back, business will be as usual on Friday. However Josh and LT fly out to Sumatra with the Five Senses team and will be working on a coffee farm and meeting the family who distribute some of our fantastic coffee.
