North Ridgeville Fire Department
Description
Facebook page for the North Ridgeville Fire Department; operated by the North Ridgeville Firefighters - Local 2129. Founded in 1931, the Ridgeville Township Fire Department was originally formed as a volunteer service, serving a population of less than 5,000 residents. In 1957, an official station (Station 1) was built to house fire apparatus and equipment used by the firefighters. By 1960, the township had grown enough, and the city of North Ridgeville was formed. Along with a surge in population, the need to expand city departments was soon evident, and the fire department transitioned to a full-time service in 1967, affording the residents protection around the clock. In 1970, the department's first ambulance was put into service, responding to medical emergencies throughout the city and providing basic life support (BLS). In 1974, Station 2 was built to help improve response times to a quickly growing southern portion of the city. 1995 saw an expansion of the department, adding 7 new members who were all state certified Paramedics. With these Paramedics, the city was now able to provide advanced life support (ALS) service to it's residents. All members hired since 1995 are required to be state certified Paramedics prior to employment. The department now responds to both fire and medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All active members are state certified Firefighters and Paramedics.
At this time, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is made up of 37 members including:
One Fire Chief,
Two Assistant Fire Chiefs (Training and Fire Prevention),
Three 11-man shifts working in 24 hour rotations known as A, B, and C shift, each comprised of 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants and 8 Firefighters,
as well as a civilian secretary.
Station 1:
7090 Avon Belden Rd.
Station 2:

It was an exciting day for the City of North Ridgeville and the North Ridgeville Fire Department. The official groundbreaking for the new fire station 1 took place today. We thank the Mayor, Safety Service Director, City Council and the citizens of North Ridgeville, we have been looking forward to this day and were happy to share it with all of you. Last but not least, thank you Chief John Reese for the countless hours you have put in to this point, we know there will be many more but please know it does not go unnoticed. We will keep updates and pictures of progress coming as we move forward.
ATTENTION: We received a call to the station earlier today from a concerned citizen reporting that she was called by someone claiming to be from the fire department requesting money. We’d like everyone to know that we will NEVER call you personally requesting money. If you receive a call like this, don’t give them any of your personal information, hang up immediately and call the police non-emergency number to make a report. Thank you.
All of us at North Ridgeville Fire Department wishes everyone a happy and healthy new year. NRFD had a record breaking year, the official numbers will be available soon but I can tell you we ran over 3,650 calls in 2017. That is around 400 calls more than 2016. All shifts also completed hundreds of hours of training and continuing education, assited residents with smoke and CO detector installations, gave school talks and demonstrations and performed countless fire inspections and preplans. We thank you for your endless support year after year and we stand ready for whatever 2018 brings. Again, HAPPY NEW YEAR North Ridgeville.
Please everyone be safe tonight and Happy New Year!!
Some cool overhead drone shots of our maneuverability training a few weeks ago. We do this course several times a year, keeping our skills sharp. This type of training becomes increasingly important as the weather gets worse every winter. Enjoy!
We are happy to announce that we have set a date for our groundbreaking ceremony! Everyone is welcome to the site of the new station, 7000 Ranger Way (the new Jaycox Road extension) on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Coffee and donuts will be served at the current Station 1 following the ceremony. Please see the attached flyer for more information!
Nice work NRPD, you guys should be proud.
C-SHIFT going through SCBA competency course on 11/16. This type of course is designed to build confidence, it is completed in complete darkness with simulated smoke. There are multiple obstacles that challenge each members ability to navigate course. Members wear full turn-out gear and SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). You will see that some of the pictures are not like the normal we post, the black and various shades of white ones are what is seen through our TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera). Members face obstacles that are designed to entangle, confine and test problem solving skills. Course is completed multiple times a year and can be modified so it is never the same order of obstacles. These types of trainings are invaluable, keeping us focused on our objective of protecting life and property. Thank you for giving us that opportunity.
