A Battle Creek regular will be returning for his 4th year in a row. The ever popular Bill Stein from Bill Stein Airshows will return to Battle Creek for our Fast & Furious Air Show July 3-4. Known as one of the best aerobatic pilots in the world, this ICAS Sword of Excellence winning (the highest award given in the air show industry) air show pilot will wow the crowds of the Field of Flight once again. Jerry Conley (DH100 Vampire). who performed in Battle Creek in the past (2010) in his Viper 29 as part of Red Star & the Dragon will be bringing the RARE deHavilland DH-115 Vampire to the Field of Flight this summer. This will be the first time the deHavilland Vampire has appeared in Battle Creek. Development on this amazing aircraft began in 1943. By 1946, the Vampire was in production and serving the Royal Air Force. Entering service as only the second jet for the British (after the Gloster Meteor) and the very first single engine jet fighter in the world. This frontline fighter started to replace many of the great piston-driven aircraft of WWII. Our friends from up in Canada will bringing some historic aircraft to us in Battle Creek this year. Based in Tillonsburg, Ontario, the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team will rock the Battle Creek skies in their vintage World War II era Canadian Harvard training aircraft. The Canadian version of the North American T-6/SNJ Texan, the Harvard's were the Advanced Trainers for the Canadian Forces. In Battle Creek, they will perform an amazing formation routine with their FOUR North American Harvards spewing beautiful white smoke against the beautiful, big, blue sky! In addition, the roaring engine and the sound of the tips of the propellers reaching super sonic will accompany these beautiful sights! A demo never before seen in Michigan, the US Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey will take to the skies over Battle Creek in 2018, participating in BOTH our Warbird Salute Air Show on June 30th & July 1st as well as our Fast & Furious Air Show on July 3rd & 4th. This is an EXTREMELY RARE demo. Only FOUR show sites are selected each year to showcase the MV-22. Introduced into service in 2007, the MV-22 is a tilt-rotor aircraft (the first tilt-rotor aircraft to enter production) designed in a partnership between Bell Helicopter & Boeing. The aircraft can function as both an aircraft, flying normally, as well as like a helicopter. This is accomplished by the rotors themselves tilting between configurations. Primarily used as a troop & cargo transport, the aircraft can be fitted with armament. With STOL (Short Takeoff or Landing) and VTOL (Vertical Takeoff or Landing), the Osprey can enter any zone quickly and efficiently and deploy or extract anything necessary. Air Combat Command Aerial Events has awarded us the A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team for 2018. This aircraft, designated for close air support, is familiar to many in Battle Creek as it used to be stationed here as part of the 110th. Now flying demos again in 2018 for the first time since 2011, this Tactical Demonstration will show off the aircraft's attack agility, maneuverability, and handling characteristics. The Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II, affectionately known as the Warthog, was designed around its 30mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon Gatling gun. The pilot essentially sits inside, and is protected by, a titanium bathtub. Rounding out the "Prowlers of the Pacific" lineup is the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver from the CAF West Texas Wing. This aircraft is the ONLY flying example of the Curtiss Helldiver in the ENTIRE WORLD! This RARE bird represents the many Helldivers that served in the Pacific. The SB2C was the final purpose-built dive bomber to enter service with the United States Navy and played a pivotal role in many campaigns of the Pacific. Also participating in "Prowlers of the Pacific" and coming to us from the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing is the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless known as "Speedy-D". Delivered in late 1940, the SBD Dauntless proved its worth as a dive bomber during campaigns in the Pacific. The Dauntless was considered the most destructive weapon in the Navy in World War II, responsible for sinking over 300,000 tons of enemy ships. The Dauntless was also responsible for sinking five aircraft carriers during the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. "Speedy-D" was delivered to the US Navy in April of 1944. In 1951, after serving with the Skywriting Corporation of America, the aircraft was sold to CIA Mexicana Aerofoto. CAF Dixie Wing acquired the Dauntless after it sat at the CAF Headquarters in Texas for quite a few years. She returned to the skies in 1999 and has been inspiring ever since with stories of WWII and saluting our veterans.
