Go Team TCS! Last night's crew at The Community Dining Room served 59 meals - pasta with vegetarian sauce, salad, and herbed bread along with warm pie. There were many requests for seconds. A huge thank you to our caring (and efficient!) volunteers.

Sharing for an alumna: Liz Walbridge '03, studying for her MEd at Harvard's Graduate School of Educaiton, is researching mobile media and children's programming with her grad school team. If you have a child aged 3, 4, or 5, she'd appreciate it if you'd fill out the following survey. It should take fewer than five minutes. https://harvard.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_dchbXuZuKcMb6M5. Many thanks! We love hearing from Liz, who prior to heading to Harvard, taught English at Choate Rosemary Hall.

The Country School Announces $10,000 60th Anniversary Merit Scholarship; Open House, Jan. 31
Cross country season may be over, but at TCS we’re still running!
Here’s a nice story and some great photos from last weekend’s Southern Connecticut Youth Invitational Track Meet. Also some nice honors won by TCS runners of all ages! From Head of School (and Coach) John Fixx: Despite focusing more training time on gaga games than running, seven Country School runners came away with ribbons, trophies, and medals from the Southern Connecticut Youth Invitational Track Meet. Held at the Floyd Little Field House at Hillhouse High School in New Haven last weekend, the meet encouraged participation from runners as young as five years old through 8th Grade. Leading the bling assault was captain Robbie C., who came away with 1st place in the 3000 m for 13 and 14 year olds and then bounced back to also grab 1st place in the 800 m. In the 7 and 8 year old division, Sam D. took 1st in the 55 meters, 4th in the 200 meters, and 2nd in the 400 meters, setting personal bests in all events. Connor D., competing in the 5 and 6 year old group, took the 1st place trophy for the 200 meters and 400 meters and 4th place in the 55 meter dash, also setting records for himself in all these events. Coming off his first cross-country season ever, Jacob R. stepped on an indoor track for the first time and took the 2nd place medal in the 400 meter division, 5th in the 55 meter dash and 5th place in the 200 meters. Competing in the 13 and 14 year old division, running stalwart Ryan W. had to depart before he got to spread his wings in the Long Jump but not before nabbing 3rd place in the 400 meters and 6th place in the competitive 200 meters. Natalie Y. enjoyed herself as she tore through three events in the tough 9 and 10 year old division, taking 4th in the Long Jump after only one short practice, 7th in the 55 meters and 11th in the 200 meters. Christopher Y., also competing for the first time in the competitive 9 and 10 year old division, blistered his opening 400 meters in the 1500 meter race and grabbed 4th place. Also with only one practice, Christopher Y. garnered 6th place in the Long Jump and 9th place in the 200 meters. At the meet, everyone enjoyed seeing and speaking with Coach Dave Driscoll, Guru for Life for Litchfield Track Club, with whom Country School runners affiliate in the off-season for championship meets such as this.

If your child loves to learn, relishes being challenged, and enjoys opportunities to engage in creative problem solving, consider applying for the 60th Anniversary Merit Scholarship at The Country School. Join us on January 31 for a Merit Scholarship session. Learn more about this unique opportunity for students entering Grades 4-8 at http://www.thecountryschool.org/admission/60th-anniversary-merit-scholarship. Here's what a previous merit scholarship recipient, an 8th Grader, had to say: "If you’re really passionate about learning, go to The Country School. They’ll really help you learn and they’ll make it fun. There are so many different opportunities and I love it that students are encouraged and allowed to try anything. I wish I didn’t have to leave at the end of the year. It feels too soon." For more about The Country School, go to: http://www.thecountryschool.org/
