About the owners:
Michael Belanger - A Canadian, an engineer, a builder, a businessman, husband and father, Mr. Belanger has a deep and abiding interest in advancing wine related experiences for lovers of wine, art, food and travel. Belanger received his engineering degree and Master in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. After an 18-year corporate career with General Electric, Mr. Belanger left to revive an ancient wine operation in the Languedoc in France. Along the way - meeting and traveling with many people - a business strategy that encompassed the idea of controlling a market “from the grape to the glass” was born. Now and in the coming years, small boutique wineries from around the world will have an advocate for the promotion of their best value product in the greatest wine market the world has ever known.
Chef Paul K. Parker grew up in his parents' upstate New York restaurant, Chez Sophie, which opened in 1969. While supporting an education habit that took him from the French literature department at Vassar College to a magna cum laude degree in philosophy and comparative literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Parker worked nearly every role at some of the finest and worst restaurants in the country. In 1995, he restarted Chez Sophie with his mother Sophie, and father, Joseph, serving as general manager. Upon Sophie's death in 2001, Paul bought the restaurant and took over as chef. Since closing Chez Sophie in 2009, Parker has worked as a private chef and wine consultant in the United States and France.

facebook.comI have been saving up for a post about what we from Rare Earth are all doing now and that will come...once I figure out what it is I'm doing, not as easy as one might think it would be. However, many of you who have become more than just customers to Paul and I, and that's a lot of you should know that the amazing, incredible, irrepressible, visionary, whimsical, poetic, maestro of many arts, quirkily funny, devil with a welding rod, sunny, warm, generous, philosophical, soulful, romantic, storytelling man that was father, husband and friend for those who came to know the Parker family just a bit...has "gone on ahead", no doubt to organize some grand fete in his finest of traditions...I do not claim to know Joseph Parker well but I do claim that I know I am better for having known him. There was just something about him that could reach into your heart and pry it open, cram it full of another bit of insight, another smile, another angle through which to view this thing that we call life. No doubt I will miss him more soon than I already miss the thought of him now. Joseph Parker...."rest-in-peace" does not suffice...."raise-a-little hell and a few more eyebrows" seems more appropriate.
