May First Friday FREE Community Art Event May 5 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Featured Photographer: Bobbi Murphy Show: Tiny Dancer Lenten roses are one of the earliest flowers in spring, but often go unnoticed because they hang with their faces to the ground. Their simple beauty shines when you flip them over. When closely studied, they remind me of tiny ballerinas, bending and turning to some unheard music. These images were taken with a soft-focus lens that heightens the effect of the gauzy, glowing world of ballet. Featured Upstairs Artist: Jo Ann Manzone Show: Abundance Jo Ann Manzone is a felter, natural dyer and botanical printer. In her show, "Abundance" she unveils the simple beauty of nature's bounty on texiles. Featured Gallery Artists: Liza Hamilton and Marcy Greene Liza Hamilton is a fiber artist who teaches needle felting classes at Ashland Art Center. She is inspired by the natural world, fiber and her needle felted sculptures. Marcy Greene has been writing and painting in the Rogue Valley for 31 years. Play and being open to different ways of seeing and listening are aspects of my creative process. "Getting it right" or "Getting it beautiful" can shut me down, so I resort to rickery; cut a poem in half, turn an image upside down or backwards. I play with anthing at my fingertips, anthing to lay on the canvas or page. I seek out a quiet place within, a space of no judgment, no mistakes, of not knowing. I work to embrace this "not knowing" in order to see who or what comes to play. This is the joy for me, the wonder of creativity.

Don't Miss the opportunity to learn Linoleum Block Printing! Linoleum Block Printing with Vanessa Jo Bahr $120, plus $40 material fee. Thursdays, May 4, 11, 18 &25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Class maximum 6, ages 14+ This class is designed to teach you how to create your very own linoleum block prints and become experienced in the process from conception to completion. Linoleum block printing, also known as Linocut, is a form of relief printmaking. During this 4-week session of classes, you will learn how to prepare and transfer images found or drawn, onto a block. You will then be guided step-by-step how to properly carve out the image, and implement various different inking and printing techniques including rainbow rolls, fades and double drops. We will print both by hand and by using the etching press in the printmaking studio that will then allow you to make prints from home. Whether this is your first classroom experience with Printmaking, or you are familiar with the medium, this class will guide beginners and help artists with previous knowledge challenge and develop their skills and engage in more advanced techniques. All students will leave with their very own set of carving tools, several finished blocks that can be reprinted for many years to come and the confidence and know-how to do so.
