Birkdale School is an Independent School for boys 4-18, with a co-educational Sixth Form Birkdale is a school designed for boys and is the only school in Sheffield specialising in quality education for boys aged 4 -16. We believe single sex education at this stage provides a nurturing environment where boys have the freedom to explore their individual interests and identities. Our thriving co-educational Sixth Form provides a balance when it matters most, preparing pupils for further education.

Birkdale is unique - We balance academic attainment with a diversity of experiences outside the classroom which inspire boys to enjoy learning. Opportunities in a wide variety of activities such as sport, music and drama provide Birkdale pupils with an all-round education.

Outstanding academic record - Standards of teaching and learning are outstanding with our pupils consistently gaining some of the best exam results in the region. 2013 proved to be our best year ever. At A Level nearly 60% of students achieved A* or A grade and a staggering 85% of entries gaining A*- B grades. At GCSE 96% of all Y11 pupils gained 8 GCSE’s or more, A* to C grade with 90% of all entries gaining A* to B.

Individual attention - Our care for each individual’s needs is at the heart of what we do. It is a place where hard work, individual attention, discipline and good manners are underpinned by Christian values.

Small class sizes – Average class size of 19 in the Senior School.

Extra-curricular opportunities - Life at Birkdale is full. There is an enormous range of extra-curricular opportunities in music, drama, academic societies and outdoor pursuits.

Congratulations to our outstanding S4 linguists (Dominic Dakin, Rafal Faraj, Oliver Flint, Jack Green, William Kerry and Adam Lashen) who have won a GCHQ-led challenge day hosted by Oundle School. The team used their language skills to combat security threats in a complex task involving code-breaking, transcribing and analysis. In a tough field, the boys fought off nine other teams to take first place and the well-deserved prize – a day at Bletchley Park!
