Taking those outrageous daring actions every day is the trick !
The media has often painted a romantic picture of love where one day a handsome prince or princess will come along on a beautiful white horse and whisk you away to a magical land and you’ll both live happily ever after - PROVIDED you look great, wear the latest fashion and smell good with designer expensive perfume! But have you ever wondered what love really is? Love is… often seen as a romanticised, illusive fantasy or dream that is just out of arm’s reach. We often hear people say, ‘if only they loved me more I’d feel so much better. Sometimes we experience being told how much we are loved and appreciated, and yet no matter how many times we hear this, it doesn’t seem to go in or we cannot really receive it. So let's explore why it is that the thing we so desire is the very thing we often feel the most blocked from receiving. For example, say in your childhood you’d come home from school with a lovely picture you’d just made when you were little. You’d come home wanting to enthusiastically show your parent and get told, ‘not now I’m really busy - later!’ And then you came back later to be told the same thing. As a natural protection to the feeling of being rejected, the heart begins to close to avoid feeling the pain of rejection. That same childhood pattern of the rejection may then start to show up later in life in relationships. Each time we perceive that we’re being pushed away or rejected or ignored then the heart closes even further to avoid feeling that same pain again - to the point where we become incapable of feeling love or trusting in a relationship. Now the question is how do we break this cycle so that it is safe for the heart to open again and receive love? The first step in this process would be to acknowledge that the heart may be closed and that its understandable and normal given everything you’ve been through. This is a natural response and its not bad or wrong if your heart is closed, in fact it’s very normal. This is the first step in joining with yourself and making peace with yourself. The following steps are about creating a kind, gentle and compassionate relationship with yourself in order to re-create a loving pattern. And it is this self compassion that paves the way to self love and ultimately receiving all the love in the world. By Simon Anderson-Contreras and Maria Anderson-Contreras Apr 2016
