The effects of DOPAMINE While we can always listen to the advise when it comes to training for fat loss and eating well, we can sometimes be a little less familiar with the effects that chemicals in the brain have when it comes to losing weight and trimming up! It really is true how our mind and bodies’ are completely linked and in sync, if you’re head isn’t “there”, 9 times out of 10 your body will not be either. So today I am going to help you understand dopamine and its effects on the body. Our brains use neurotransmitters such as dopamine to regulate functions and communicate with our body/ nerves etc. Dopamine allows your brain to regulate mental abilities that we all have such as motivation and attention. It’s important to understand that dopamine affects your mental and physical well-being in a number of different ways. If we have HIGH dopamine levels, which can vary from person to person, we can experience effects such as addiction. However there are many positives of having high dopamine levels in your body. If our dopamine levels are high, we tend to have a reduced impulse to over-eat. Our brain uses dopamine to tell the body we are full and to stop eating. Therefore LOW dopamine levels may play a role in overeating. The amount of food we eat can also affect dopamine levels. If we are used to eating large quantities, then our body produces less and less dopamine overtime. Therefore we experience more hunger and uncontrolled eating patterns. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical in the brain that regulates things like emotion, behavior, impulsivity and alertness. Whilst most of the time, in a healthy working body, dopamine is regulated, as I stated above, it’s possible to have too much or too little. Too little dopamine is commonly linked to forms of anxiety whilst high dopamine levels are closely linked to over-active behavior and addiction. How can we boost our dopamine levels? Dopamine boosting foods include; whole greek natural live yoghurt, tumeric, pumpkin seeds, green tea, dark green vegetables, avocado, almonds. L-theanine found in green tea increases levels of dopamine with two other feel good transmitters GABA and serotonin. Some other effects from LOW dopamine include; lack of motivation fatigue apathy procrastination inability to feel pleasure low libido sleep problems mood swings hopelessness memory loss inability to concentrate Get upping that dopamine :)

The "Revitalize ME" LIME Smoothie!
I recently discovered a NEW favourite smoothie recipe. With thanks to the wonderful Sue Monkhouse, this is definitely a winner! When you are juicing, or making smoothies, it's important to juice up healthy fats if there is fruit content. Health fats help balance the blood sugar level hence the impact of the fruit will not be so harsh! So with avocado AND banana in this one, what a GREAT mix!! :-) Enjoy!
