Today we started part of our winter maintenance programme. We have put a single line drain into the centre of our 8th green, this will connect into a 80 metre ring drain going around the green. We stumbled across various problems whilst doing our ring drain. Due to having huge slabs/bolders of rock in our Sandy loam soil the drain run came up untidy. This will give us a little more tidying up than planned but were confident it will look good on completion. Tomorrow the lads will continue to complete drainage work whilst we also start the re-shaping and designing of the 13th bunkers. Updates will be posted on here.

That's all the greens cored and top-dressed. Sorry for the inconvenience this causes but it's an essential part of our agronomy programme that helps the long term condition of our surfaces. Now we will let nature take its coarse 🌧🌦 before we put an autumn feed on them. We will then roll the surfaces, stimulating lateral growth which will help tighten the sward back up. Thanks for your patience.

Today we started the process of scarifying! We removed almost half a tonne of organic matter per green. This task will go hand in hand with the overseeding plan tomorrow. We will be supplying the greens with a fescue/bent seed mix. Some seed will nestle into the grooves made from scarification and other seed will sit in the dimples made by the blec overseeder. We do these tasks together to maximize the germination outcome. The greens will then be topdressed and fed accordingly. The long term aim of these processes is to have better uniformity, increased consistency, and create more sustainable surfaces. We will be starting at 5am to minimize disruption. Thanks for your understanding.

After a prolonged spell of wet weather which made championship week a nightmare to work in never mind play in, we would like to thank everyone for the kind comments regarding the course condition. A big thanks goes out to the committee and members for coming out in numbers to make sure the knockout stages ran smoothly. Now's the time for us to let the greens breathe again as we verti-drained all surfaces at a depth of 7.5 inches. This procedure will be followed by top-dressing just over a tonne per green of medium/coarse sand. A granular feed will be applied to enable faster recovery.
