Today I made a good start. Regardless of the drizzle and gloominess, regardless of having a backache, I went out for a brisk walk and clocked up a few steps on the pedometer. After getting home, I made my fresh green juice, smoothie, a cup of green tea as well as preparing my lunch for later as a busy day ahead beckons (being prepared and planning ahead helps you stick to eating healthy and on time!). Todays healthy luncheon is my mums delicious recipe for a vegetable hotpot, full of fresh ingredients, filling and satisfying. FREE RECIPE in the link below for you to try at home :) Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone :) #glutenfree #vegan #fresh #healthy #fullofvegetables #protein #nutritious #freerecipe #privatecatering #freshideas #lunchtime #planahead http://virtuosofoods.co.uk/recipes/

This week we will be sharing all foods 'au natural'. There is so much information out there on what to eat and what NOT to eat however balance is the key to anything and everything. Here are some guidelines to consider: ~ Eat Natural Food: no heavily processed foods (filled with chemicals, sugars, salt and fats). Cooking from scratch doesn't need to take hours in the kitchen and preparation is key (even if you need to prepare the night before). ~ Eat Less Refined Sugar: Try substituting with raw agave, dried fruit, juice from orange juice etc. We use coconut palm sugar and this works fine for us. Instead of buying cookies and cakes from the shops (if you look at the back of the boxes/packets you will see unlimited listed ingredients of which most are not good for us) try baking fresh at home. When we bake cakes and cookies here at Virtuoso Foods we use about 5 natural ingredients. No rubbish, additives, chemicals, bad sugars/fats are added. Whole goodness. Great for some weekend fun with the kids! ~ Eat More Vegetables: Fresh or frozen is best. ~ Eat Wholefoods: wholegrains such as brown rice, brown pasta, pulses, lentils, nuts, seeds and natural grains (quinoa) etc. ~ Carbohydrates: these have been given a bad name however eating the right carbs (such as wholegrain) aren't bad. Like anything, if you eat in moderation and as part of a healthy balanced diet then you don't need to deprive your body. ~ Exercise: Any movement is better than none! Start by walking (parks, around your neighbourhood), gentle gardening, housework and then you can go further and swim, join exercise classes and so much more. Make exercise fun. I have recently treated myself to a book which is brilliant and I highly recommend it 'Sitting Kills and Moving Heals (details in picture below). This will give you an insight into why moving, any movement, really helps your body heal on so many levels as well as starting to address some well known illnesses and common symptoms. ~ Eat little and often: where ever we look the suggestions are always to eat little and often (recommended every 2-3 hours). Make sure you have good balanced meals and snacks and most important of all, keep hydrated. ~ Drink Water: drinking enough water through the day is important to keep the brain and body hydrated. The recommended amount is 2 litres. If you don't like drinking water plain and simple, add some delicious slices of fruits (orange, lemon, lime), some herbs (basil and mint work well) and some berries. Spruce your water up into a delicious natural cocktail. During the Summer when the weather is hotter, you may need to drink more water so always keep a bottle handy. **The key to living life in a healthy way is to enjoy everything in moderation. Balance is the key. Of course these suggestions may differ if you suffer with certain allergies, symptoms and health conditions so please always check with your doctor before embarking on any change in lifestyle** #natural #healthy #freshfoods #wholegrains #healthysuggestions #virtuosofoods #meatfreemonday #freefrom #vegan #vegetarian #wholefoods www.virtuosofoods.co.uk

Homemade Granola: nothing beats the taste of homemade granola where you can control exactly what goes in, adding all your favourite nuts, seeds, fruits and so much more. This is my favourite mash up granola recipe for you to try at home: - 1 cup walnuts - 1 cup pecans - 1 cup slivered almonds - 1 cup gf jumbo oats - 3 tbsp chia seeds - 4 tbsp melted coconut oil - 1 tbsp cinnamon - 2 tbsp coconut sugar - 3 tbsp mixed flax seeds - 2 tbsp sunflower seeds - 4 tbsp of mixed vine raisins and cranberries - pinch of Himalayan salt Mix them all together in a bowl and put in an oven proof dish/tin and bake in the oven at 180c for 30 minutes, stirring after each 10 minute period. Let the mixture cool down and then transfer into a clean and dry 'tupperware'. Enjoy as a snack or for breakfast with your choice of fruits, yoghurt and/or milk.
