The fire station in Trzin, together with the development of the main cultural hall, shopping mall, market square, commercial square, shopping strip, new residential development, memorial park and much, much more. Abiro won the 2nd prize. Consequently, as our proposal was not recognized and commended by the competition jury as highly as we hoped, the pragmatism won over the ability and necessity to relate the architectural proportions of the fire station to the general urban development of the town. In our opinion the position of the fire station on one of the most important traffic intersections, regional junctions and town’s future public spaces requires a careful balance between the interests of the community and the commodity of the service. The architecture is the art of compromise.

Even though the dean’s cabinet at the Academy of fine arts and design is planned to be completely refurbished in few years (by another architect), a small change in furniture could not wait. It is one of those projects which took months (or even a year) to mature – only to become deeply connected with the client, institution and the very room.

This place was designed without any 3D visualization or scale model. Only carefully placed wooden sticks on the actual site – to get the placing right and 2D drawing to master the proportions. But key design aspect lies in a simple question. How many technical restrains do we need to respect to produce an authentic and uncompromised result? No plastic materials, no bitumen, no complicated tinworks, no polystyrene, no paint – no organic material whatsoever. Result – no flat roof, no cantilevered and exposed pieces, no colors, no desire or even a chance for a style. Only to take care of the water, sun and the winds.

Studio abiro (together with Studio AKKA and Stvar) receives this year's Plečnik Award for the Nordic Center Planica. The ceremony was held in newly opened National Gallery.

Miran Kambic Photography has taken these shots quite some months ago. The spaces belong to the the house constructed near Brežice. The main idea was to create a exhibition room for the cooperage craft tools.
