We're looking for some extra pairs of hands to help us out with some chores at the kennels tomorrow evening from 3pm onwards as we'd like to make the most of the sunshine! :) would you like to help us walk or wash some dogs, cut some grass or even do a little bit of painting?! Lucy, Rock, Winnie, Tilly and our one-eyed wonder Safari all left us yesterday to travel to their forever homes in the UK.... No space is every free here for long though and today we welcomed Solo, Bono, Bessie, Kindra and Moses from North Tipperary pound <3 Will post photos and bio's as soon as they settle in and I get to know them a little bit :)

On Sunday 13th May Thurles Lions Club will hold their Vintage and Classic Cars Show at St Patrick's College, Thurles, 12-5pm. We will hold our dog show there again this year along with a cake sale. Why not join us on the day and check out the Vintage and Classic Car Show, "Sounds of Tipperary" musicfest, "Taste of Tipperary" foodfest, craft stalls, vintage fashion show and the Department of Defence Exhibit along with bouncy castles and face painting to entertain the kids

A Lovely Waffle Waffle is a handsome bichon frise mixbreed, he is about the size of a cocker spaniel. Waffle came to us from South Tipperary Pound. Waffle adores people and loves a fuss! He can be a little jealous of other dogs stealing the limelight and while we think that he could settle in a home with other dogs with careful introduction, Waffle would love to be an only dog! Waffle is a playful little fella and he loves to romp around with kids. Waffle has a fluffy, wavy white coat which will require regular maintenance to keep it in good condition – he will need a thorough brushing a few times a week and a trip to the groomer for clipping every 8-10 weeks. Bex O'Brien from Shankill in Dublin had this to say about her long-nosed loves! "I was volunteering in Wicklow Animal Welfare when a lurcher was brought in heavily pregnant.. Before her Id never really thought much about sighthounds, in my mind I found them aloof, indifferent and (or so I thought) boring - I'd always been a GSD kinda girl.. but, she was different.. she was sweet, gentle, affectionate and fun.. Eventually she had her puppies, 11 I think if i remember correctly.. and one of them was this fat, little, pudgy cutie (well they were all cute of course but this guy just seemed to speak to me).. Mojo had a little white tip on his tail, little white socks and was this lovely grey colour.. As he grew I applied to adopt him when he was ready.. The day came and I brought this gangly legged, long nosed sweetheart home. I heard so many stories about sighties - they had sensitive stomachs, and were thieves, counter surfers, etc but this little thing was just a cuddler.. he ate what the other dogs ate, and although he did steal the odd chip he was very respectful around food and waited to be given it. We would get such craic watching him run in bursts of gangly puppy speed, legs getting all tangled sometimes but coming back for cuddles once he was done.. Mojo is now 3 and totally changed my view on sighthounds.. he's fun, playful, loving, smart (sharp as a tack) and so, so cuddly. He changed my view so much that 2 years ago, when Mojo was 1, we adopted another sighty - Ebony.. she's a greyhound/saluki x and although that mix gives her an air of royalty she is just like him - sweet, gentle, loving, affectionate yet cheeky and mischievous. They are so well behaved - when someone comes to the door the gsd and the noisey yorkies all go bananas barking but the sighties just stay quiet (think my neighbours deffo prefer them) They chill out on the couch all day while I'm at work until I'm home when we go out for our walk (well they run and I try not to get mowed down lol) and at night they both cuddle beside me on my bed. They live with cats, small dogs and big dogs and are great with visiting children. I dont think I'll ever not have a sighty now, I still love GSDs and to be fair neither sighty will scare off intruders haha but they have wriggled their way into my heart and there they will always be." Not ready to adopt a sighty yet?
