The Kilnamanagh First Responder Scheme is an organisation aimed at helping improve the survival rates from cardiac arrest locally. When someone’s heart stops, the difference between life or death may be minutes. The Kilnamanagh Community First Responder Scheme aims, in conjunction with the HSE and the National Ambulance Service, to get local responders to cardiac arrests in the community within minutes, so life-saving CPR and defibrillator shocks can be given before the ambulance arrives. Another of our main roles will involve teaching CPR to the community.
The group is currently at the stage of recruiting volunteers and getting final approval to setup from the National Ambulance Service.
This page is for those interested in the group's activities and for those interested in volunteering with us, whether as a responder, in an admin capacity, or in a fundraising role.
Establishing this scheme will offer a real opportunity to save lives right here in Kilnamanagh.

“Today we launched the second 24-hour public access defibrillator in Kilnamanagh. This is located on the outside railings of St Kevin’s Church in Kilnamanagh, beside the entrance to the school. There is no lock or code on our defibrillators and they can be accessed by anybody at any time. If somebody collapses beside you and they are not breathing, ring 999/112, commence CPR and send somebody to get the nearest defibrillator. Turn on the power and attach the pads as instructed by the voice prompts. Pictured at the launch of the defibrillator today are Fr Michael Murphy and our medical director Dr Niall Conroy. We plan on installing defibrillators around the estate in the coming months and years. We need your support to do this. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. A special thanks to raftwork Signs in the Greenhills Business Park for supplying our signs. Keep an eye out for our upcoming fundraisers and our free CPR/defibrillator training classes.”

Hi all, our team have now bought a second 24-hour public access defibrillator for kilnamanagh from the money raised over the last year. Our medical director has been meeting with Fr Michael from St Kevin's Church in Kilnamanagh over the last few weeks with a view to putting the defibrillator on the church railings. The great news is that this defibrillator should be up and ready to go live within the next couple of weeks. We also have some kind local sign writers, who are going to erect some high-visbility signs so that people know the location of our defibrillators. Our next step is to fundraise for a third defibrillator, which will hopefully be erected somewhere near the GAA pitches later this year. To help with this fundraising, we're looking for volunteers to join our fundraising and administration teams to help us reach our goal of having a defibrillator within a 2 minute drive of every house in Kilnamanagh. please send us a message if you would like to volunteer a few hours of your time each month to help with organising fundraising events."

*Attention signwriters* Would any signwriters in the community be willing to make us a sign advertising the location of the defibrillators? After just this week buying a second defibrillator for kilnamanagh, most of the group's money has been used but we could contribute a small amount towards it.

Remember that our next defibrillator will be delivered in the next week or two and we're looking for options regarding where to hang it. If you live along the ring road and would be in a position to have the defibrillator on your wall please message us.

Thanks for all your support regarding the first 24 hour public access defibrillator in tallaght. A lot of people have asked how they can support the group in the future. Here's what we're looking for as we try to to accomplish our goal of having at least 5 defibrillators in Kilnamanagh. 1) We have an incredible fundraing team who have been spectacularly effective so far. But if you have a flair for fundraising and would like to join the team then let us know. 2) Keep us in mind if you want to run a fundraiser. We're still looking for donations for defibrillators and CCTV. 3) Please spread the word about where the defibrillators are and in particular how important it is to leave them untampered with. Please ring the gardai if you see anyone tampering with the defibrillator. If they get stolen or vandalised we'll have to abandon the project. 4) If you are experienced in teaching hands-only CPR and would like to help us run free public classes then get in touch, especially if you have access to BLS manikins. 5) If you live on the ringroad and would be willing to have a defibrillator in the side of your garden wall , please let us know. We're aware that's a huge ask but a project like this can't work in a residential area unless we hang defibrillators where people live. If you can help with any of the above please send us a message on here.

Great news! The defibrillator is up! Its attached to the external fence at the entrance to the community centre. This is a 24 hour public access defibrillator for use by anyone in kilnamanagh! If somebody stops breathing, phone for an ambulance and send somebody to get the defibrillator. When it arrives, press the 'on' button and do EXACTLY what the defibrillator tells you to do. We'll be posting a demo video soon. The cabinet doesn't have a lock code so can be accessed immediately by anyone. This feature means it's VERY vulnerable to theft and vandalism. So we're appealing for people to donate or run fundraisers to buy CCTV for this machine and for the second one we will launch in the next few weeks. Remember, this is also a great reason to do a CPR course. Even though you dont have to be trained to use a defibrillator, it definitely helps! Please let the gardai know IMMEDIATELY if you see anyone tampering withbthe defibrillator. Please educate kids that you know about the importance of not messing with it. Thank you so much to everyone who donated towards this. Especially run for Rita, the GAA and soccer teams, the local schools and the strawhairs Christmas lights. If anyone knows a sign writer who might do up a sign to show people whete it is, please let us know!

The cabinet has just gone up on the community centre railings. The defibrillator will be put inside it tomorrow. Please share far and wide so people know what it is and where it is. Our biggest challenge will be protecting it from theft and vandalism so we'll need to all keep an eye on this lifesaving piece of equipment.
