Career Guidance, Career and Life-Coaching, Advice and support for all ages I am a qualified Guidance Counsellor and Lifecoach who enjoys working with young people and adults who are in the process of making important decisions about their future career. I realise that the end of the Leaving Cert exams is a turning point for young people. On the one hand the relief of being finished with exams is immense, but on the other hand they must be in a position to make important decisions about their future study/career. CAO closes on 1st July and students are under pressure to consider their course options, and ensure they enter their choices in the correct order. Students have a window of opportunity between now and then in order to consider their choices and change them on their application. They also need to be aware about other options available to them if things don't go according to plan. I feel it is even more important in these recessionary times that students make appropriate choices now. Too often students accept courses that do not fit with their interests and abilities, only to drop out after some time or fail exams. Parents invariably have to carry the can (financially) when their offspring go down a different route the following year.
