Susan Harris Art Gallery Born in Oxford, England, I have lived in Ireland for the 22 years. I am a figurative painter, I prefer to work directly from life. I often work in impasto to give a physical presence to the work. I like to paint with spontaneity, whilst observing closely the expressive brushstrokes allow the viewer to see the process.
Colour is always a great joy for me. Exploring colour harmonies and patterns, I try to achieve a sense of poetry in each piece.
The main influences in my work are the post impressionists and the later fauves, in particular Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
