Well folks, we’ve raised a glass on St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve filled up on eggs for Easter, next stop summer holidays and then the kids head back to school, the weeks and months are rolling by. Before you know it, we’ll all raise our heads and October will appear and it’ll be time to start getting those tax affairs in order. We all say every year we’ll get more organised, we’ll have the returns done by summer! More often than not the plan doesn’t always come together! Revenue have recently announced an extension to the ROS return filing and tax payment date for certain self-assessment Income Tax customers. For customers who file the 2016 Form 11 return and make the appropriate payment through ROS for Preliminary Tax for 2017 & the balance of Income Tax payable for 2016, the due date is extended to Tuesday, 14th November 2017. To qualify for the extension, customers must both pay and file through ROS. Where only one of these actions is completed through ROS, the extension does not apply and the required date to submit both returns and payments is no later than 31st October 2017. Hi all just a reminder that anyone who has elected to pay their 2017 Local Property Tax by single debit authority today's the day, 21st March, that Revenue are due to deduct your LPT from your elected bank account.

Revenue have issued an e-brief regarding their compliance programme carried out under the Revenue Code of Practice for Revenue Audit & other Compliance Interventions. Revenue have made changes to this Code and are currently issuing letters to all self-assessed taxpayers who filed their 2015 Income Tax return to ensure that they know how to correct errors or omissions in any tax return that they have filed. It is important to be aware that Revenue routinely conduct a wide range of checks to ensure that returns are filed and that they are filed correctly, which most returns would be. If you, the taxpayer, need to make a correction it is important to remember that there are very significant advantages if you take action before Revenue contact you, such as availing of reduced penalties and avoiding having your name published in the List of Tax Defaulters and avoid possible prosecution. Details of how to correct tax returns are set out in the Revenue Code which is available on the Revenue website.
