Length of pregnancy can vary by up to five weeks, scientists discover

Great to see this confirmed by science, women have known this since the beginning of time. And despite this evidence you will likely not hear this from your doctor and your hospital will still insist your baby is 'late' and must therefore be helped out by artificial induction labour using various drugs and medical procedures. It will probably take 20 years before this scientific evidence is taken seriously and integrated into the Irish maternity system.

Well said Dr Ciara Kelly, one of our own local Greystones GPs👏🏻. Last night in RTE's Late Late Show she proposed a really sensible way of going forward with the new National Maternity Hospital and my sentiments exactly. I know Ciara personally and can can attest to the fact that she understand women's needs in maternity care quite well. You can watch the replay of the show here on RTÉ player (I'll post the link below). Unfortunately player doesn't allow you to skip forward but it does deliver the show in segments so you only have to watch the bit about the Botox and plastic surgery before the NMH discussion, which is also quite interesting.

Aims Ireland

Most people don't realise that the 8th Amendment negatively effects more women who want to be pregnant and give birth to their babies than those who want to terminate. The 8th Amendment doesn't even mention abortion. It negatively effects ALL pregnant women as it strips them of their constitutional rights as an Irish citizen to total autonomy over their body. It strips them of their rights to informed consent regarding medical procedures wanted or unwanted, to choose how they are cared for in pregnancy and how they will birth. Until they give birth they are effectively a charge of the state the same way as a prisoner is. They may get to choose certain things but ultimately their choices are limited and curtailed by the 8th. The government and the HSE have consistently used the 8th as an excuse to delay necessary improvements in our maternity services including the ending of governance by religious orders.

It's true you just can't get too much breastfeeding support... from the right people of course. All Cuidiu leaders have breastfed their own babies and are highly trained professionals.

Using homeopathy to support yourself during labour birth and afterwards

This looks like a useful course that some of our mums might be interested in. "Homeopathy can help with the many emotional symptoms of early labour such as anxiety, fear, worry, feeling overwhelmed and well as symptoms of exhaustion, back labour, intensity and things moving too quickly. In the postpartum homeopathy can help with the symptoms of bruising tears scars and emotions. after the birth This is an event I am hosting specifically for parents who would like to know more about using homeopathy for the upcoming birth of their child, and also for healing afterwards. The standards birth kit which many parents buy can appear to be very complicated on first reading so this course aims to focus on clear symptoms and simple prescribing.
