Maple Mons crowned ITBA Champion mare None the worse for her fall at Inchydoney, Maple Mons won twice in 24 hours the weekend after, at Kinsale and Ballingarry. We were lucky at Inchydoney to see this great mare in action; she has now confirmed herself one of the best point-to-point mares of the last decade. The nine-year-old is owned by Aaron Charles and her current handler David Christie. From her 15 point-to-point wins, she was partnered to success by five different riders in Barry O’Neill, Declan Lavery, Richie Deegan, Jamie Codd and JP O’Sullivan. The daughter of Great Exhibition began her career at Largy in 2012 where she finished 3rd with her first win coming at Lingstown in November 2013. She has since won three hunter chases and 15 point-to-points out of 55 starts at 12 different tracks, which includes two wins at Loughanmore, Necarne and Lisronagh and a further 18 placed efforts. Having beaten the geldings on all three of her hunter chase wins, she received her highest rating of 116 when winning the Joseph O’Reilly hunter chase by 12 lengths which is a new record for a mare.
