The Institute has collaborated with the Local Authority Services National Training Group (LASNTG) to develop a Certificate in Road Programme Management for employees within the Roads Department of Ireland’s 31 local authorities. The Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Irish Public Bodies (IPB) were also involved in the development of the programme. The Certificate in Road Programme Management allows for the development of best practice in the areas of policy overview, legislation, finance, project management and delivery and administrative functions. Commending this month, the programme will be delivered in the five regional training centres of Mayo, Tipperary, Donegal, Dublin and Cork. The staff of Institute of Technology Carlow would like to offer heartiest congratulations to our colleague Mary Boylan who won Gold at the recent 2018 Ozawa Cup International Karate Tournament, which took place in Las Vegas. Mary, who works in Human Resources, is a black belt in Karate and has already gained European, International and World Titles under Sensei Noel Amond. She has practiced Karate on and off for about 25 years and is a member of Ballinabranna Karate Club, located a few miles outside Carlow town. Students and staff were involved in yesterday’s thrilling Allianz National Hurling League final at Nowlan Park between Kilkenny and Tipperary. In the last ten years, the rivalry between the neighbours has been the most intense and thrilling in hurling and yesterday was no exception. Nuacht, which will published every term, is a new medium of keeping staff, students and alumni informed of the Institute’s many announcements, wins and achievements. County Carlow Local Sports Partnership organised a fun-filled two-day camp at the Institute this week. The camp was open to boys and girls with a disability and their siblings, aged 6-15 years. This programme is supported by Institute of Technology Carlow, Sport Ireland, Carlow County Council, Healthy Ireland, Department of Health and County Carlow Development Partnership. Activities included Tae Kwon Do, Zumba, arts & crafts, balance bikes, playball, pound fitness and rugby. The highlight of the camp was a visit by Irish rugby international Sean O’Brien who handed out certificates and a medal to all 33 participants

Two students from Institute of Technology Carlow were crowned champions at Games Fleadh 2018. Rafael Plugge Girao and Sebastian Kruzel were declared Game Studio College Champions with their entry Bullit Shooter. In total, students from Institute of Technology Carlow scooped four of the top prizes on the day. In addition to the top Game Studio College Champions prize, the college was awarded: Best of Original Audio and Music for Bullit Shooter; Best Original Innovation in Gaming for Hoppin’ and Droppin’ and Best in Visual Engineering for Celestial Ascension. http://www.itcarlow.ie/news.htm/view/id/4369
