Latest successful toe nail reconstruction- no nail to new nail! This method is suitable for as a short term solution to cover the nail bed if you have no nail at all left. If you have had a full nail removal and find the nail bed still sensitive or have a special occasion and need a nail. The great thing about this approach is you have a custom made nail that you can reattach to the foot whenever you need it! If you have at least a third of the nail left then there will be no need to reattach as the nail will stay in place and grow along with your nail.

Toenail Reconstruction: Fungal nails, brittle nails, nail trauma and a partial or full nail removal can be embarrassing or painful for our patients. Foot Check Up – Is it important? The feet are the foundation of our body and we usually don’t consider their importance until we have a problem with them. Nowadays we are becoming more aware of foot health and the need to look after them. As is common with a lot of sportspeople, I had a lot of problems with my feet when I was training for a marathon, losing toenails and having problems with painful callus and corns and this was down to the constant pressure I was putting my feet under with long runs and tough workouts. There are lots of preventative measures we can take to keep our feet in good condition and good footwear is key. That bargain basement pair of runners might be a steal at the time but if they don’t provide your feet with good support then they end up costing you in the long run. Invest in good shoes that aren’t too tight and allow your feet to breathe. Keeping your feet clean is also essential so this means really scrubbing them in the shower not just allowing the suds to run over them. Keeping your feet dry helps prevent fungal infections forming and use an absorbent powder or change your socks regularly if necessary. It is important to keep a check on foot health and we do this through a neurovascular exam with every patient on an annual basis which helps us to keep track of any significant changes to a patient’s foot. Moreover we are seeing patients that just want to get a foot check up to keep their feet in good health or get advice on reoccurring problems – preventative measures rather than waiting until there are issues. Whatever the reason for the visit a thorough examination and treatment ensures good foot health for all our patients and keeps them ‘on track’.
