Where do I even begin with Tarana? She is single handedly responsible for me going from my quiet 7 hour work week to a long but so fulfilling 7 hour work day thanks to one single post on social media:) Tarana came to me over 18 months ago with Japanese straightening in her hair that had started to grow out into that ugly half frizzy half poker straight phase. She was tired of over texturised haircuts that made her feel no different. She and I both had toddlers who were 2 at the time, and she wanted a change, a pick me up and a "I want to feel good about myself" haircut that would make her feel young again and not like the mother of a two year old she felt like at the time (we've all been there 🙄)Her heartfelt message on a Facebook group mentioning how happy she was, how easy to maintain the cut was and how she loved how she looked everyday ensured my phone was ringing off the hook almost immediately and hasn't stop since. It was completely outta the blue and as grateful as I am for the overwhelming response that post still continues to generate, what makes me happiest is how happy she was with a simple haircut ♥️Thank you Tarana🙏. A story like hers is what life's all about! Sri Lankan woman living in HK for the last 12 years, recently adopted a child from India after having a judge there hold their papers for 8 months, as he wanted a bribe. This after all their formal paperwork had come through, all they needed was him to sign off on a paper allowing permission for their child to leave the country. He was a Dalit btw, you'd think that having come from hardship yourself all you would want to do would be help another, especially a little child. They flew to Bihar stayed close to the orphanage on just Rs.100 a day as demonetisation had just been announced and they effectively had no money, no Indian bank accounts, no atms that they could withdraw from, no home, no support system.... nothing ! Just wanted to leave with their baby girl. The judge was adamant, they were determined and as a last ditch effort reached out to Menka Gandhi on email, thinking she'd never respond! Two hours later she did , intervened from Delhi , had the judge transferred since talking to him didn't help the matter either and finally after that 2 month ordeal they were on a flight home with their little girl Netanya which means "Gods gift". So I love working with hair like this . It's frizzy, unmanageable on most days, difficult to tame, big, messy ...... unless you learn how to wear it. Notice how I haven't blow-dried/ styled it in a way that she obviously would never be able to replicate. Something I enjoy doing is teaching the client how to style it easy and quick for everyday wash n wear. Meet Nicole Burak who moved to Hongkong from Canada 7 years ago. Many who've frequented Paul Gerrard and now Indulgence will be familiar with Nicole and her fabulous work as a hairdresser of many many years. Not only is she great at what she does she is also the nicest person you could meet. Warm, loving , talented, gorgeous and sooo helpful. She's the one who taught me how to do a blowdry and I have always turned to her over the years for hair advice and guidance. Owing to her brilliant styling skills she was signed on by GHD Hongkong , where she has spent many a day training young stylists across the city , keeping them up to date with current trends in hair and how to wear it. She has very kindly consented to come over on the 2nd of August at 2 pm to teach me many new things to do with hair and how to style it. Today was a long day but worth every minute of the final result. So Preethi is a swimming instructor who came to me in March to get her roots done. She mentioned that she was tired of colouring her hair and I gave her options as to how she could actually be colour free in the near future. We got down chatting and I tried to explain to her the many ways we could start visiting the process of going completely grey without having to go through a shabby traumatic grow out process. She is almost 50% grey and so that would have been an uphill task. She came in today with about a 2 inch grow out and the decision that this is it! NO MORE COLOUR. let's go grey! This is the final result ! Steel grey highlights to blend in with the silver grey roots that I didn't touch ! Meet Lata who coincidentally lived in Bangalore in the early nineties when we just moved there :) Cutting her hair today reminded me of an incident at 'mad o wot'in 2007! I was there getting my hair cut for a film I was doing at the time and Gauri Khan walked in. The lovely Sapna sat her down and proceeded to section just the top of her brown hair ( similarly coloured at the time to Lata) and cut into it! I've been fascinated by hair forever so remember watching Sapna with great intent to see what she was doing. The trim took all of 7 minutes which was just that top section of hair and when she was done , voila! Gauri had her trademark super voluminous hair on top with her bangs sitting perfectly! I couldn't believe how that had happened! Cut to ten years later today while I was cutting her hair and she asked for volume at the top I did this and was immediately taken back to what I had seen Sapna do so effortlessly :) notice the shorter bits at the back of her head, great for keeping the hair lighter at the top and therefore adding volume to the top ! #anaithanair #anaithanairhairstylist #haircuthk #hairdresserhk
