Are You Syrious?
Description
NGO dedicated to helping the refugees and humanitarian work Are You Syrious started off in the summer of 2015., as the civil initiative of first responders from Croatia who tried to support the refugees on the Balkan route. Today it's an registered NGO with around 200 volunteers in many different countries.
.
We deploy field teams and send aid shipments to Syria, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, France, Germany...
.
In Croatia, we provide daily support to the refugees and asylum seekers. We've developed independent integration programs for both children and adults, to facilitate their access to education, housing and work.
.
We do advocacy campaigns whenever they are needed. We believe no one should be stripped of their basic rights such as protection and humanitarian support. We advocate open borders and fair treatment of all of the people on the move.
.
One of our core activities is providing daily news digests from the field, mainly for volunteers and refugees on the route, but also for journalists and other parties. We're happy to receive useful info from anyone who can contribute.

Mapping Dystopia: the Hidden Shame of Fortress Europe | Novara Media
With warnings that as many as one million migrants are already on the way to to Libya and Europe from countries across Africa, Europe’s refugee crisis seems set to get even worse. From police brutality at borders to squalid conditions in detention camps, countries across the continent are responding to the situation with violence and cruelty. Nearly one-in-three migrants/refugees seen in MSF clinics experienced violent events including physical trauma along their journey. State authorities, including those in European countries were the perpetrators in over half of such events which were associated with border closures. There is “a crisis of protection and safe passage” which needs to change towards one of respect for the principles of international human rights and refugee law.

Berliners get an appetite for refugees’ cuisine
“This is fertile ground for refugee food projects – a different sort of Arab spring, perhaps” said Jörn Kabisch, a Berlin-based food and culture writer. He took a cooking class with a group called Über den Tellerrand (Beyond the Plate) whose mantra is to use “food as a means for cultural exchange”.
