Town of Spirit River
Description
Located 80 km north of Grande Prairie this northern town has everything you need including schools, pool, hospital, grocery store and views to the north. Located 80 kms north of Grande Prairie, Spirit River is one of the oldest towns in the Central Peace Region. The Old Spirit River Settlement was located about 3 miles southeast of the old Mission. In 1888, the Hudson Bay Company began a cattle ranch four kilometers to the southeast on the banks of the Spirit River to serve traders at Fort Dunvegan.
In 1891, a trading post became the original settlement along the banks of the Spirit River. Because the railroad missed this location, those early settlers decided to move and it split into two communities, one to the west( Now Spirit River), and one to the east (Now Rycroft).
The present location of Spirit River was surveyed in 1915, and in 1916 it was incorporated as a village, the same year the railroad arrived. Spirit River later became a town in 1951.

Municipal District of Spirit River
Apparently another phone scam is happening. They call your house. Tell you they are from Stars Helicopter. You win $100,000 and then want you to call 800 # so they can bill you shipping and handling and maybe taxes etc. Remember. If you ever get a call you won a prize. You have the right to claim the prize without paying shipping, handling fees or any taxes whatsoever. All prizes must be delivered with no strings attach. Never ever give out your credit card or banking information on the phone to anyone unless you made the call to order something and you are 100% sure the person on the other line is legit. As a retired banker I seen all kinds of people from young to old lose money on scams like this. Be safe.

The hospital in Spirit River have a great Palliative Care section managed by very dedicated nurses, doctors and supportive staff. Here is Mayor Allan Georget declaring May 7 to May 13 Palliative Care week. Representing the hospital are: Ruth Markovich, Elaine Yanishewski, Herman Sellin, Hope McNally, Christopher Viola.

The town approved your budget on Monday April 24th. Again for many years in a row there will be no mill rate increase. Meaning your council will NOT be raising taxes.

Your town employees and council are always looking for a good deal to save you money. We were in need of a newer better street sweeper. The old one was used beyond repair and parts were hard to come by. A new sweeper is about $250,000. A good used sweeper with 5-6,000 hours is $150,000. The public works found one at a bankruptcy auction in Chicago with under 300 hours. We got lucky and after US exchange, duties, shipping and a few parts it cost about $75,000. We also got lucky and sold our used $5000 machine for $12,000. The new sweeper works great. Does a better and faster job. A big thank you to our town employees for making a great deal.
