It's been 87 years in the making from when I came into the world in Fort Macleod, Alberta. I was the third of four kids and the only boy ( lucky me ). I really was lucky because we had a wonderful Mom but our father passed away when I was two. Can you imagine being a single parent of four kids during the Depression? We moved to Vancouver B.C. when I was eleven. What a move that was! Four kids, our Mom, our new step Dad and everything we had in boxes in a day-car on a CPR train over the Rocky Mountains. I was an awful student in my early years so I left school in grade eight and went to work as a seaman with the Union Steamship Company running passengers and freight ships between Alaska & Vancouver. We stopped at every little town, reserve, logging camp operation, and fish cannery on the coast . When the war ended, the Company bought and converted three corvette navy ships into Coastal passengers freighters, and started the first Vancouver to Alaska Cruises. Can you imagine how wonderful that was for a fourteen-year-old kid from the prairies? One night I will always remember was when we sailed out of BellaBella headed to Prince Rupert in a terrible storm. I was at the wheel with Captain Bowden & a Second Mate. We were taking green water over top of the bridge when the Captain yelled out " We`re going to go down! We`re going to go down!" We got through it but when you're 16 years old, you don`t want to hear that from your captain who`s been through many other storms before this one . I`ve done a number of jobs in my lifetime, and had two successful businesses, but one day when I was 48 years old with nothing to do that day, I began to doodle and I fell in love with drawing. Next I began to make frames because they made the pictures look better. Then came mats and double mats. When I retired I had so many pictures that a friend one day suggested why not sell them? So here we are today having our friend John Seymour johnseymour@lakesidetech.ca set up a great web-site to do just that. I`d love to hear from you as this is our first venture into online sales & your opinion would certainly be helpful to us
