Cambridge Rowing Club
Description
The Cambridge Rowing Club was formed by a group of enthusiastic citizens who had a vision of a community-based club promoting the sport of rowing.
The Cambridge Rowing Club was formed in 1987 by a group of enthusiastic citizens who had a vision of a community-based club promoting the sport of rowing.
The Club was given permission by the City of Cambridge to use an existing wooden garage at the Riverbluffs Park as their clubhouse and storage facility. Rapid expansion during the first two years resulted in the contribution of a tractor-trailer by Koch Transport of Kitchener to accommodate the additional rowing shells purchased by the Club.
The Club continues to have a rapidly expanding membership drawn not only from Cambridge, but from the surrounding communities of Kitchener / Waterloo, Guelph and Brantford.
Programs include Learn to Row, Highschool, Recreational and Competitive. The Club can offer services to everyone from the novice rower, to those eager to race at the many regattas held at various clubs from May through to November.
The CRC and the sport of rowing cater to people of all ages, and both men and women equally. Members speak highly of the many physical, mental and social benefits of participation in the sport. Visiting rowers have many times commented that our stretch of water at the Riverbluffs is one of the finest and most picturesque rowing courses in Ontario.
Our members have competed successfully in many of the sport's top Regattas. CRC members regularly race at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association, Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, Canadian Open Masters Rowing Championships, and have been known to show both at the U.S. Masters Nationals and World Masters Championships. Come show your stuff and help the rowing community learn that Cambridge Rowing Club members can put it down!
In 2005 an expanded storage facility was constructed on the same premises at Riverbluffs Park. The fundraising came from a successful Capital Fundraising Campaign at the Club and funds from the City of Cambridge. Our clubhouse is named The Bruce Holliday Boathouse after the founding member, local veterinary doctor, the late Bruce Holliday.
As the club has grown, High School and Youth Rowing have become one of the Club's major thrusts. Through rowing, the development of core life skills such as dedication, leadership and co-operation happen in a positive and constructive environment.
Join us to be part of a sport whose tradition and ongoing history will enrich your life!
