Soils with a healthy, functional microbiome are more fertile, productive and sequester carbon at a higher rate than a soil with little biology or with the wrong mix of microbes. The great news is we are able to influence the amount and ratio of microbes in our soil, helping it reach its potential. This is one of the key messages of Carbon Link’s Soil Carbon Trading Roadshow which came to an end today in Cowra. Two weeks, two states and 250 participants made for a superb road trip for the Carbon Link team and special guests, David & Hui-Chun Johnson from New Mexico. Thanks to everybody who came along, asked questions and made these events great! For those who missed it, we will have a video recording up online early next year – watch this space! Graphic from Regeneration International – hop over to their Facebook page for more great content.

Johnson Su Bioreactor

There's been a lot of interest at our roadshow in the Johnson-Su bioreactor, which our speaker, Dr David Johnson developed with his wife, Hui-Chun. The no-turn composting system produces a superior, microbially-diverse and fungal-dominant compost which can be used to restore biological functionality to soils from small to large farming operations. Watch a You-Tube video that explains how to build your own bioreactor here:

“There’s also been one very large project around soil carbon… that’s actually quite interesting, because that’s extended with producers all the way from Queensland down to Victoria” MLA’s Dr Tom Davison on yesterday's Queensland Country Hour, speaking about agriculture’s win in the latest ERF auction, and how soil carbon projects provide opportunities for producers whose country doesn’t suit savanna burning, reforestation or avoided deforestation.
