This is the story of my best friends mum. Not unlike the story of my mother. It 'seams', we are truly stitched together from the fabric of our childhood. Both our mums sewed their way out of abusive relationships to put aside enough money to leave their past behind & raise us. I grew up around a cutting table, sewing needles, bolts of fabric, patterns & homemade dresses. Mixed with addictions, personality disorders, bruises, facades & home wreckers. We caught an occasional glimpse of the magical local design houses my mother worked for. I'll never forget going to the 3 story white-washed home, with a pool & escarpment views of my Mums boss - a fabulous local designer. It was like a fairytale to escape our reality. Yet...... It seems almost all of the women I know who sew, have escaped some personal tragedy or other. Are we not all linked by some thread or other...... I love the story behind a garment, or a seamstress. Are they not magicians with a needle instead of a wand?
