In a parallel universe we may be able to get away without training. But that would be boring and we wouldn't get to hang out.

****** WHY DO YOU TRAIN ****** As CrossFit Open 2016 continues on its' merry way, I am pondering this very question. I believe that it's important for everyone to consider. The usual answer is "I'm training for Life". While this might be true, it doesn't really dig down to the root of it. I came to an important realisation. I am not going to be competing at the CrossFit Games, and I'm OK with that. Actually, I'm more than OK and there are some pretty compelling reasons. I have been around CrossFit for a long time, and in that time I have seen the standards improve in leaps and bounds. You only have to look at video of the old CrossFit Games from the Ranch to see how far it has come as a sport. But I'm not doing it for the sport aspect, and that's an important thing that I have to remember. It's also important as it was not a sport when I started doing CrossFit. I don't have the drive to put myself in the level of discomfort during workouts that is required to be at the level these athletes are at. I also don't have the time to commit to the training to be close to that level of strength, skill, and dare I say it, virtuousity. And again, these are things that I am OK with. Now I will tell you why. I don't train for the competition. I train for me. I train to be better. I train so that I am stronger, more capable. I train so that I can go out and do the things I want to do physically. I train so that I can demonstrate to all of you skills and drills as required. I train for my peace of mind, which is ironic given how much I get frustrated at times. But I also train so that I can go to competitions and have fun. I train so that when someone asks for help in a team competition I can jump in and do it with no notice. I train so that I can use my fitness, and you know what? I think that is an admirable reason to train. At the end of the day, each workout in a competition or the CrossFit Open is just that, a workout. It holds no deeper existential meaning. It's a fantastic yardstick, a way of generating community but it's just a workout. I'm going to go out and give each workout, every session, my best effort, and that's all anyone can ask. And I'm OK with that. ADRIAN PHOTO - Vicki Yeates - Fifty Two Photography

***** THE POWER OF HABIT ****** Do you ever stop and think about your habits? I don't care whether they're positive or negative habits, I'm just interested in your habits. How many could you account for? Your morning coffee, your shower ritual, what you have for breakfast, the order you put your clothes on, or even heaven forbid that smoke you sneak in before work. Habits can be powerful things. They can take a lot of the decision making out of your day. It can be liberating knowing that you do things in a certain sequence at a certain time. Everything runs according to plan and saves a lot of your free will for the important decisions. Eating the same things everyday, wearing the similar clothes like a uniform, these are all positive habits. That's what this is all about. Make your habits positive ones. If you have a negative habit, substitute a positive one. Instead of that smoke go for a 5 minute fresh air break, have a glass of water of find something else positive. The act of taking the break can be beneficial for your work, it's the cigarettes that are the issue. The toughest part of a positive habit is establishing it. Once the habit is established the hard work is done and the time in your mind is let loose to concentrate on more important tasks. Look at your habits, reflect on the positive and reinforce them. Review your negative habits and consider changes you can make. Make your habits work for you.

16.3 RXd with 63 reps. I threw everything I had at that one. @Regrann from @justfish1n - I've been doing crossfit for 12 and a half months. I can lift my own BW with ease, squat double BW and deadlift almost triple BW. There are still movements that are elusive and alien to me and my oly lifts are improving slowly. I'm 5'3 and 68kg which makes it extremely difficult for me to do RXd WODs, however if everything was calculated on BW, I can lift with the best of them. I've done a lot of WODs over the past 12 and a half months and trained pretty consistently 4 days a week. I've been pushed to my limits mentally and physically on multiple occasions and have even made myself proud at some of my achievements, but 16.1 was probably the most difficult open WOD I've done. It was extremely difficult mentally. Physically I knew it would push me to my limit having to lunge a third of my body weight (43kg/95lb) over head, but mentally looking at each marker and forcing my body to take the next step forward was something out of this world. The support I...
