This includes Prayer Service from 8.00 - 8.10 pm.

Fridays
Long Meditation Service     6:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The Inspirational Service offers members an opportunity to share in a fellowship of meditation and inspiration. Newcomers to Self-Realization Fellowship meditation services may not be prepared for extended, unbroken periods of meditation. This service provides newcomers with inspiration from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda and also helps them to become accustomed to longer periods of meditation.

Individuals participating in the Prayer Service assist the Prayer Council at the international headquarters and the Worldwide Prayer Circle in their task of praying for world peace, and for people in every nation who request healing of physical illness, mental inharmony or spiritual ignorance. During this service individuals may also pray for their loved ones, as well as for divine aid in overcoming their personal difficulties.

The Meditation Service provides members and students with an opportunity to practice together the methods of concentration and meditation taught in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons. The flame of one match is small and weak; the fire from many matches is large and strong. The united devotion and concentration of many individuals can powerfully increase the depth of meditation for each individual.

The Reading Service points out the fundamental unity between Christ's teachings in the Bible and the Yoga teachings of Bhagavan Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. The inspirational readings, together with chanting and meditation, make up a balanced service that meets the needs of both long-time SRF members and those who are new to the path. This service is well suited to the general public.

Special Commemoration Services are held for devotees to honour the Gurus of Self-Realization Fellowship. Everyone who is acquainted with the SRF teachings and holds an appreciation of the significance of the Guru-disciple relationship is invited to participate in these services with sincerity and reverence.

Conserve your powers. Be like the capricious ocean, absorbing quietly all the tributary rivers of the senses. Daily renewed sense yearnings sap your inner peace; they are like openings in a reservoir that permit vital waters to be wasted in the desert soil of materialism. The forceful, activating impulse of wrong desire is the greatest enemy to the happiness of man. Roam in the world as a lion of self-control; don't let the frogs of sense weakness kick you around. -- Autobiography of a Yogi

"Why live in such a state of uncertainty? Unimportant things in your life have assumed first place. You allow various activities to engage your time and enslaven you. How many years have gone by in this manner? Why let the reminder of life slip by without spiritual progress? If you make up your mind today that you will not let obstacles deter you, you will be given the power to overcome them. -- Paramahansa Yogananda, in Sayings of Paramahansa Yogananda #ParamahansaYogananda #meditationinPerth #meditation

“Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” With these words, Jesus placed his signature on a unique life that enthroned him everlastingly on the altar of worshipful hearts as the incarnation of God’s loving compassion. The Good Shephard of souls opened his arms to all , rejecting none, and with universal love coaxed the world to follow him on the path to liberation through the example of his spirit of sacrifice, renunciation, forgiveness, love for friend and enemy alike, and supreme love for God above all else. As the tiny babe in the manger at Bethleham, and as the saviour who healed the sick and raised the dead and applied the salve of love on the wounds of errors, the Christ in Jesus lived among men as one of them that they too might learn to live like gods. -- Paramahansa Yogananda, in The Second of Christ #ParamahansaYogananda #GoodFriday #Easter #Christ #JesusChrist

Calmness protects you from negative vibrations When you are nervous, you are more receptive to disturbing vibrations of all kinds, which further affects the nervous system. When you are calm, irritating vibrations cannot disturb you. They get at you when you are cranky and nervous; but the minute you become calm and strong in mind again, they cannot touch you. Change and strengthen your vibrations by thinking, "I am peaceful, " or "I am happy. " Day after day, affirm that thought, and you will develop that peaceful or happy magnetism. --Paramahansa Yogananda, in The Divine Romance #ParamahansaYogananda #meditation #meditationinperth

Even our enemies are all part of the tests of life. When an evil person tries to persecute you, remember that he has probably tried to harm you in some way in the past also. If you think of that hurt and how terrible that person is, that is a great mistake. When you give out hateful thoughts, that person receives them and hates you twice as much. Also, hate attracts, as does love. You don't want the magnet of your hate to draw your enemies near you. Never hate anyone. Love and forgiveness have a healing effect on yourself and on your enemies. --Paramahansa Yogananda, in The Divine Romance #ParamahansaYogananda #meditation #meditationinPerth

And if you would have magnetism, don't talk too much. Don't be a chatterbox-talk, talk, talk. Idle talk dissipates your magnetism. It is also dangerous, because those who talk too much always end up saying the wrong thing. These little words that come out of the canon of the mouth have the power to explode empires; or, if they come from a man of wisdom, to bring peace. The person who talks too much is a shallow thinker and has very little magnetism. But when a silent man of wisdom talks, people listen. Don't look on yourself as a weak mortal. Incredible amounts of energy are hidden in your brain; enough in a gram of flesh to run the city of Chicago for two days. Students seeking to escape from the maya-induced sex delusion received from Sri Yukteswar patient and understanding counsel. "Just as hunger, not greed, has a legitimate purpose, so the sexual instinct has been implanted by Nature solely for the propagation of the species, not for the kindling of insatiable longings," he said. "Destroy wrong desires now; otherwise they will remain with you after the astral body has been separated from its physical casing. Even when the flesh is weak, the mind should be constantly resistant. If temptation assails you with cruel force, overcome it by impersonal analysis and indomitable will. Every natural passion can be mastered. --Autobiography of a Yogi #paramahansayogananda #meditation #meditationinperth #Autobiographyofayogi

"Guruji, I would like to hear some stories of your dhood. " "I will tell you a few - each one with a moral!" Sri Yukteswar's eyes twinkled with his warning. "My mother once tried to frighten me with an appalling story of a ghost in a dark chamber. I went there immediately, and expressed my disappointment at having missed the ghost. Mother never told me another horror tale. Moral: Look fear in the face and it will cease to trouble you. " "Another early memory is my wish for an ugly dog belonging to a neighbour. I kept my household in turmoil for weeks to get that dog. My ears were deaf to offers of pets with more prepossessing appearance. Moral: Attachment is blinding; it lends an imaginary halo of attractiveness to the object of desire. --Paramahansa Yogananda, in The Autobiography of a Yogi #ParamahansaYogananda #AurobiographyofaYogi #AOY #Meditation #meditationinperth

The treasure of friendship is your richest possession, because it goes with you beyond this life. All true friends you have made you will meet again in the home of the Father, for real love is never lost. On the other hand, hate is never lost, either. Whatever you hate, you also attract to yourself again and again until you overcome that intense dislike... You must not hate even your enemies. No one is all bad. -- Paramahansa Yogananda, in Living Fearlessly #ParamahansaYogananda #Yogananda #meditation #meditationinPerth
