Brighton Veterinary Hospital
Description
Veterinary Hospital providing care for the pets of Brighton and surrounding suburbs for the past 30+ years. Brighton Veterinary Hospital commenced servicing the local and surrounding areas, as a clinic, in 1974 under Dr Gerry Deen’s tutelage. It evolved into its current purpose built residence in 1988. The facility then became the second ASAVA accredited Hospital in SA.
Over the years our staff and level of service has expanded to meet increasing client demand. However our focus has been to continue to offer a family orientated, professional and caring level of service to our clients and of course their pets. One of the enjoyable occurrences is to be now servicing the grandchildren of original clients that we were seeing in the 1980’s.
Brighton Veterinary Hospital is well equipped both in staff and instrumentation to provide increased levels of care and service to all manner of pets. Our highly trained and caring staff at BVH hopes to continue to provide quality and affordable service into the future…

This week Dr Greg treated a Piping Shrike whose toe unfortunately got tangled in some string. The string was caught very tight around the toe, cutting off blood supply and causing the toe to die. Dr Greg had to carefully remove the dying toe while the bird was under anaesthesia. This lucky little fellow has recovered remarkably well and will be released in the coming days 😊 Good job Dr Greg! 😊

A new strain of Parvo Virus has recently been identified in South Australia :( Parvo is a horrible, often deadly disease that is spread by the faeces of infected dogs. It causes symptoms such as vomiting, severe lethargy and bloody diarrhoea. Thankfully the current vaccine provides some protection against the new strain - this means that vaccinated dogs can still become infected, but their symptoms will be less severe and therefore less life-threatening. Please make sure all of your beloved fur children are up to date with their vaccinations. If your dog has any of the symptoms described above, please contact us immediately.
Have you heard of the latest craze for cats? It is a bizarre phenomenon, whereby if you make a square on the floor out of masking tape, your cat will be inclined to sit inside the square. We just couldn't believe this, so we tried it out on our clinic cat, Savannah. Sure enough she moved straight to the square and sat in it! Amazing! 😂 Have you tried this with your cats? 🐱

Losing a pet is incredibly difficult. They have such a huge impact on our lives and we form such incredible bonds with them. This is a great article explaining why grieving for a dog is completely normal, and similar references can be made to all other pets too. We hope no one ever feels 'silly' or 'embarrassed' for grieving over the loss of such a special member of the family. ❤🐶🐱🐁🐹🐢🐰🐤🐑🐄🐷🐍🐟
