I’m working on a short article on Birl Britton, Smith County’s final World War I soldier who died in California in 2004 at the age of 108. His father died when he was very young. His mother, Ella Britton, and his brother, Toliver Britton, are both buried at Saint Louis Cemetery here in Tyler. Other family members are out at Galilee Cemetery in the southwestern part of the county. Birl Britton’s wife was born in Larissa, in northern Cherokee County, and she’s buried in Utah. I’m still trying to figure out details and connections. I don’t see any really current Britton tombstones online, so they may have all either moved out of the area or were women who married and acquired other surnames. Just wondered if you knew anyone.
