City of Sunnyside, WA
Description
Where the Sun Shines Brightest Sunnyside is centrally located in the heart of Washington State’s farm country. Driving from the cities of Seattle, Spokane or Portland, Oregon will take you about three hours to reach the pastoral scenes of lush green hillsides, dotted with patchwork squares of vineyards, orchards and pasture lands.
With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, you can almost always find a local purveyor offering an abundance of seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. Before your visit, check out the produce calendar to find out what will be available when you arrive. Enjoy the experience of "fresh from the tree or vine" produce while contemplating which of these delicacies will travel home with you.
During the first weekend of May attend Cinco de Mayo festivities and experience a "taste of Mexico". September finds the community participating in the annual Sunshine Days Parade and Miss Sunnyside pageant, along with a carnival and street vendors to tempt your taste buds and artsy desires. And if you’re visiting in the wintertime, make sure and attend the Lighted Farm Implement Parade, one of the Northwest’s premier parades, which boasts more than 50 pieces of decorated farm equipment!
Before you leave, make sure to take time to visit the historical museum, located downtown, which features Pioneer memorabilia, a Native American display, and a historical diatribe on Ben Snipes, the first settler and the "Cattle King" of the Yakima Valley.

Come to the Sun - Sunnyside, WA
SUNNYSIDE LAUNCHES TOURISM WEBSITE - The City of Sunnyside has recently unveiled a new website designed to attract tourism to the area, www.ComeToTheSun.com. The new site will serve as a portal for showcasing everything the city has to offer potential visitors. “We have the hotels, we have the restaurants, we have the parks, we have the events. Now we have an effective way of showing them off,” said Don Day, Sunnyside’s City Manager. The website is part of a larger marketing effort the city is undertaking to promote itself as a tourism destination. After the closure of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce in June of last year, the city undertook several responsibilities previously managed by the Chamber staff, such as tourism marketing. The city has partnered with Yakima Valley Tourism to help them establish their marketing efforts, which will include websites, advertising and an enhanced social media presence. “Sunnyside is a great place for travelers to stay when they are visiting the Yakima Valley,” Day said. “You can use Sunnyside as a hub to go to the different wine industries and farmers’ markets, and wine country is only 10 minutes in each direction from us, so marketing us as a tourism destination makes a lot of sense.” The new website will also serve as a hub for promoting community events, and even allows local organizations to submit their event information to be featured on the calendar.
