Please join us with a moment of silence PAUSE AT 3 P.M. IN UNITY ON MEMORIAL DAY American Legion Auxiliary members – -proudly serving veterans, the military, and their families for nearly a century – – are more than familiar with Memorial Day and the reasons for its observance on the last Monday of May. But did you know Congress passed The National Moment Remembrance Act as an added way of honoring America’s fallen heroes? Signed by U.S. President Bill Clinton in 2000, the Act declares 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for Americans, in an act of symbolic unity, to have a moment of silence in honor of the men and women of the United States who died in the pursuit of freedom and peace. “It is essential to remember and renew the legacy of Memorial Day, which was established in 1868 to pay tribute to individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States and their families,” the Act states. “Greater strides must be made to demonstrate appreciation for those loyal people of the United States whose values, represented by their sacrifices, are critical to the future of the United States.”
