The Drawing Studio LI
Description
To instill a creative process that exists in everyone. To support fledgling as well as more developed artists that have been involved or associated with this school in the past, present or future. When you mention the word “artist”, there are a few who stand out above the rest. Their style, lovely and immortalized, has the ability to touch our souls. They were not regarded as the elite during their short time on earth. They were the rejected, the outcasts, the young who dared to break from conventional teachings and try to experience art in its rawest, unbridled, most passionate and most rewarding form. That style was called “plein aire” and the artists of course, are the impressionists. “Plein aire”, or known to us as “on location”, is an application where artists challenge themselves to work their magic outside of the comfort of their studios to achieve a result that a controlled environment can only rarely produce. The oldmasters continuously ventured outside sometimes battling the elements; because they knew that they were on to something.
On location, you not only paint what you see, you feel what you see, smell what you see, hear what you see, you even taste what you see. You live what you see. Then, and only then, when the artist puts an instrument to paper, he’s not just rendering a “pretty picture”, he’s telling a story. Today’s technologies have certainly made it much easier for artists to shoot the reference that they want and take it home to their comfort zone. With super-zoom lenses and high mega-pixel digital cameras, the modern artist canindeed manage to render Monet’s “Rough seas at Etretat” without sitting knee-deep in the water like he did, but will the results be the same? These small groups of hand selected, exciting, talented, and motivated young artists amongst you today have made it their quest to answer that question. Under the guidance of their mentor, Jeff Fisher, they have spent years attempting to capture the excitement, spontaneity, the raw emotional expression that can only come from doing it right there. Whether they realized it or not, those young, rejected, renegade impressionists found the way to achieve greatness by capturing the moment, at the moment, sometimes in only a few moments and regardless of subject matter!
Following in their footsteps is the answer and these artists are doing just that. So please feel free to take a moment and experience the works before you. These artists are hungry and determined. Browsing is free, and I am certain you will not be disappointed. Many of the artists associated with this group, past and present, have already achieved great success within the professional art world. They’ve acquired the knowledge. Why Jeff Fisher himself, founder of this movement, is a world-renowned artist and currently working illustrator whose credits include a long-standing seat on the Board of Directors at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
