Happy Valentine's Day from the Guide Dog Foundation! Pictured: a beautiful photo taken by one of our volunteer puppy raisers shows the Standard black Poodle she is raising. The Poodle is lying down and holding a red paper heart that says "Be My Valentine?" on it. There is a jar of heart shaped cookies next to her, and the sun is setting behind her. She is looking off into the distance, so romantic!

Did you know that the Foundation, and our sister organization, America's VetDogs, have field representatives who are certified #guidedog and #servicedog instructors that support our program across the United States and Canada? They assist with in-home training, graduate follow-up training and aftercare if necessary, and they interview potential students to assist in the application process. Once a dog is placed in a consumer’s home, a field representative will be their main contact if they have any questions or further training needs. As with our on-campus training staff, our field reps are committed to providing quality follow-up services to our graduates for the entire working life of the guide or service dog team. Visit GuideDog.org for more information on our organization. Pictured: A group of our instructors attending a training seminar at our National Administrative Center on Long Island.

Pictured: A black and white photo of our December 1952 guide dog class on campus. There are eight students standing side by side with their guide dogs. Seven out of eight dogs are German Shepherds and Shepherd mixes, the eighth dog is a Boxer. The woman in the center of the photo is wearing a dress, and a long fur coat. The two women next to her are also wearing dresses with winter coats. The five men are wearing suits and long overcoats. The 1950s were an impressive era of style to say the least! Pictured: One of our puppy advisors holding a class at a local Target. There are three raisers attending the class, all are raising black Labradors. Some of our puppy raising classes are held on campus. Others are held in stores, parks, train stations, schools, etc. We want our pups to experience everything they can from a young age. This will ultimately help them become the best guide or service dogs they can be. Consider becoming a volunteer puppy raiser, Puppy.GuideDog.org
