Description
"Where age is just a number!" The Shawnee Senior Center is a busy recreational facility for persons 50 years of age and up. Our motto is "Age is just a number!"
Regular activities include: Enhance Fitness and Tai Chi: Working for Better Balance - both injury prevention exercise programs for our participants. We offer the following special health services:
1) Weekly Mini-health Check provided by Pam Sing and Nancy Carlson, volunteers from Heartland Hospice
2) Massage Therapy by Tammy Cotton, a licensed massage therapist - which works especially well for our clients with aches, pains and high stress lives. Tammy's services are by appointment and there is are fees beginning from 15min for $15 to 60min for $60.
3) Dr. Sandra Choney, Clinical Psychologist, provides counseling services, by appointment, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
We also have a wide range of regular events such as Woodcarving, Live music & dancing (2x p/week), Gospel Singing (2x p/wk), zero-impact aerobics, Pottery with Bridget, dominoes, life size checkers, billiards, card games and much more...

FACILITY RENTALS: The SSC has a variety of rooms available to meet the needs of the Shawnee community, including the "MUNI" or Shawnee Municipal Auditorium - WHICH WILL HAVE CENTRAL HEAT AND AIR BY SEPTEMBER!!
If you have a team that needs to practice, are looking for a place to hold classes or are planning an event (family or class reunions, birthday party, baby shower, concert, fundraising event...) we would love to show you what our building has to offer...and our pricing is hard to beat!

Master Gardeners Joy & Joe Harbeson also volunteered at Clocktower Park on front of the Auditorium. There were probably 30 students, total. Watermelon, water & koolaid to keep hydrated!!
OBU students came, saw & conquered for Serve Shawnee!! They adopted & cleaned (for today only) Highland to Main & Broadway to Union. Sidewalks, public parking lots and everything in between! Then they built tables & benches out of pallets & painted our raised planting beds! We have been SOOOOOO blessed!!

Well our peeps...tonight's 50's dance was a total success and we really made $$$. Thanks to each and every person who donated time, money, participation, advertising, music, and skills.
