Guests in attendance experienced a special reception at Richmond City Annex yesterday as we recognized and honored Jeff Council for his 35 years given to the healthcare community and what is now OakBend Medical Center! Mayor Moore read a proclamation which included recognizing Jeff Council as the recipient of the 2016 Founder's Award, Texas Healthcare Trustees Highest Honor! Attendees were then blessed to hear special words from Commissioner Beard, remembering fondly his time as Director of the Oak Bend board when Mr. Council was Chairman, and what he learned from Mr. Council, followed by touching words from Mr. Council on how much this tribute and honor meant to him from his hometown! Richmond is certainly a better place because of all Jeff Council has given to our community over the years....Thank You Jeff Council!

Mayor Moore declared Sunday, May 7th Lemonade Day whereas Lemonade Day is good for kids, good for business and good for Richmond. Lemonade Day is a free program dedicated to teaching children how to start, own and operate their own business through the simple and time-honored act of building and running a lemonade stand. Additionally, this innovative program is teaching valuable lessons to the future business leaders of our community. These young entrepreneurs learn real life skills through experiential learning. The children participating learn to ‘spend a little, save a little and share a little’, donating a portion of their profits to any local charity of their choice. Lemonade Day is a day of learning and celebrating Richmond’s future; whereas, every citizen has a job- either buying or helping children sell lemonade- on May 7th. The citizens of Richmond are encouraged to simply purchase a cup of lemonade from one of the youth participating in the program to demonstrate how our community cares for the future of youth. Lemonade Day is a part of Prepared 4 Life, a non-profit organization that provides fun, proactive and experiential programs infused with life skills, character education and entrepreneurship. The City salutes and commends the sponsors, organizers and participants of this innovative program. So go ahead….enjoy a glass of lemonade on May 7th
