Let’s start with the basics…My name is Jennifer Simmons, I am a mother of three amazing children, a Group Fitness Instructor, Physical Therapy Assistant, and Certified Personal Trainer. I have been teaching Group Fitness classes for 13 years and love it more and more each year! I certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for group fitness, and I have taught Hip hop aerobics, Barbell, HIIT, Step, as well as Turbokick and Bodycombat which require their own certifications. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM.
I work as a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant and have experience in home health, sports rehab and conditioning, outpatient therapy, and pediatric therapy. I love helping people of all ages, shapes, and sizes maximize their physical capabilities! It is rewarding for me to be part of the process as they overcome their obstacles and challenges and meet their goals.
Why I do what I do…
Let’s face it, the world is packed with personal trainers, instructors, coaches, health professionals of ALL sorts, etc. All with different motivations behind why they do what they do. We rarely get a glimpse into these motivations, but today, I would like to share my motivations as to why I chose to do what I do so excuse me while I get personal here :).
When I was 10 years old, my father had a heart attack. After his quadruple bypass heart surgery, I remember going down to Salt Lake and sitting in the rehab room. We would sit on the side of the rehab room with pom poms and cheer him on as he walked on the treadmill and did his rehab, yes literally! When he returned home, life as we knew it changed. My mom and dad started weighing their food; my dad was meticulous about eating correctly and making sure he exercised appropriately. Not only did he have a heart disease, but diabetes as well. I would wake up to the sound of his feet on the treadmill as he worked out every morning for 2 hours in his attempt to keep these diseases at bay. My dad HAD to change his lifestyle SO he could live. That’s when my motivational seed was planted. From that point on health and fitness became a huge part of my life. I never wanted to be in the position my dad had to be in, and I wanted to help others to avoid it as well.
Why am I sharing this?
To me, being healthy isn’t about looking good…that’s just a bonus. It’s about feeling good! It’s about gaining quality of life! It’s about being strong enough to do the things you enjoy doing and not having limits! I am in this profession to help you become and stay healthy and strong. I want to be part of your journey, and I would love to help you develop and secure lifestyle changes that will last!
